Update: Geoffrey Wells Sentenced
Maria Wells, the estranged wife of Geoffrey Wells, has posted an update on her soon-to-be-ex-husband’s case. You’ll remember that Wells was charged after one of his sons, Syber, committed suicide with a loaded, unsecured pistol that his father had left lying around. The result of that carelessness? Wells has received a 12 month suspended sentence and three years probation. He cannot own firearms of any kind, and cannot visit his surviving children unsupervised.
Maria Wells is understandably very bitter toward her husband, whom she says is contesting their divorce. When I asked her in email how her children were doing, the reply was – predictably – dismal. “My three surviving sons are all in counceling. As am I. They have been traumatized for life. My hope is that Geoff Wells will come to realize what he has done, give me a divorce, and let our children heal.”
Mrs. Wells also left us with a cautionary message. “People have to start realizing that leaving unsecured weapons out, kills.”

An unsecured gun is only a hazard if the children are not trained to not touch them.
The problem was the suicide not the pistol. If Syber had hung himself with a bra that his mother left lying around should she have been forced to never own a bra again? And have supervised visits to her children?
O my gosh an unsecured bra!

This comment is in reply to the comment left by Ralph Reagan. There were 14 unsecured/loaded weapons laying around the house (by the front door, against the living room walls and on the beds) the day my son died. Geoff Wells was ordered by two Nevada Judges to secure all weapons while my children stayed with him. These were the conditions for joint custody. CPS has also found Geoff Wells , neglectful in the caring of our sons. I am not a gun hater, just a concerned parent. Are childrens safety should be our top priority. And for your information, all my children were trained to use guns. But just because a child is trained to use them and told not to touch them, does not mean it wont happen. To many children are dying because of their parents disregard for their safety and their own stupidity. So next time you want to make a stupid remark (hanging by a bra), get your facts straight. Its people like you that say the first thing that comes out of your mouth without researching the facts of the story. Geoff Wells, knew full well what he was doing. And disregarded the judges orders. 14 LOADED WEAPONS LAYING AROUND THE HOUSE, NO ADULT SUPERVISION, CHILDREN LEFT ALONE (12,10,8YRS OLD) AND NO PHONE. What is your comment now?
