Foster Parents (Straight Ones!) Leave Boy in Closet to Attend Reunion (UPDATED)
Earlier this month, Pam Spaulding at Pandagon went off on the ridiculous notion that heterosexual foster parents are somehow inherently better than gay foster parents. As if Mother Nature were dying to add another data point to bolster that case, along comes the horrifying story of Marcus Fiesel, a 3-year-old foster kid who was left locked in a closet so that his loving fosters, David and Liz Carroll, could travel out of town out of the motherfucking STATE for a family reunion. The loving pseudo-parents then sent police on a massive manhunt to find Marcus, pretending he was missing, which provided a less-than-perfect cover for the husband to burn the young boy’s corpse.
But, of course that’s preferable to letting Marcus live with a…a…gay couple. Goddess knows what would have happened then. I mean, he might still be alive! And maybe even (gasp!) happy!
Ugh. Ugh and double ugh. I know many gay and lesbian couples who would gladly take in a child such as Marcus, especially if it meant keeping him out of the hands of such depraved bastards. Sadly, I doubt this will compel anybody on the Christian right to cease their vendetta against gay and lesbian parents. And that’s a crime. We need as many options as possible to ensure that kids like Marcus end up in happy homes, and not in a house of horrors.
