Missing Blind Girl Wasn’t So “Missing” After All
Folks, help me make sense of this one. I need a map. So we have two "roommates", Steven Doll and Kevin McDonald of Scottsdale, Arizona. (Guys? It’s okay to admit you can’t quit one another. We won’t judge you. Well, okay, we’re gonna judge you – but not over that.) Doll is the father of Michaela Griffin, who’s 5 years old. Since she has her mother’s last name, we can assume that her parents’ break-up was…less than amicable.
Michaela was staying with Doll and McDonald, who were reportedly toking up a storm all day and all of de night. At some point Doll and McDonald take Michaela to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to visit a friend; Doll gets "separated" from McDonald and Michaela, and so he decides to take a limousine home.
Yeah. Without his daughter.
No, wait – it gets better! Christine Griffin, Michaela’s mom, shows up at 9pm to pick up her girl. Doll contends he has no fucking idea where his own daughter is. ("Um…uh…fuck, she was here just a minute ago…hold on…yeah wait, this has something to do with the airport, oh God, I should remember this…") Mom, understandably, flips her shit and calls the cops, who issue an Amber Alert.
The police find Michaela and McDonald asleep in a baggage terminal. She’s starving, as munchies-inflicted McDonald somehow forgot to feed her for a solid eight hours. McDonald later tells the newspapers that the blind child just "led" him around the airport "wherever she wanted to go".
Wow. I’ve heard of the blind leading the blind. But the blind leading the irreparably stupid? That’s a new one.
Dad insists that he wasn’t slammin’ the reefer while he had Michaela, and says he "never" used marijuana. Well, okay, maybe once, but he never inhaled. Dude, if you have another explanation for your Cheech & Chong-esque behavior – a recent lobotomy, say, or exposure to massive amounts of radiation – we’re dying to hear it. So is the state of Arizona. And so, I imagine, is the Arizona family court system.

If this story was so wrong, on so many fronts, it would actually be funny. I mean, how freakin’ stoned do you have to be to wander around an airport with a kid and not think of calling anyone. Heck, how stoned do you have to be to leave and think nothing more about it.

This little girl happens to be my neice and that dad has always been a deadbeat… We just never thought he would become such a total looser! And his roomate is a dickwad for not calling my sister and telling her about their so called “adventure” with her before hand. I mean how stoned do you have to be to do something this idiotic?!?! By the way “dad” is already back in jail again, THANK GOD! Now all the police have to do is keep him there!

You have no idea how right you are! And I deffinitly agree with all of you about him. Morons like him should be sterillized (please excuse the spelling),especially after they do something like this. It should be made dam sure that he never has kids, since its obvious that he can’t handle it.

Waaay too much weeeed maaaan!! For sure, but after reading everything about this story, you have to think about their mental campacity. It doesn’t seem like they have much up there. They actually seem phyco or should I say possibly bi-polar? Would it be safe to say, they definately need to be admitted to a phyco house with no way of getting out. No wonder why they live together. Seems as though they’re one of a kind. Police really need to find something to hold them for a VERY LOOONG TIME. As for as the mother of Maichaela, she won’t have a hard time getting his “visitation rights” taken completely away from him. This little girl is better off not seeing her Father. It’s ashame, but true.

little evil, that’s a point I keep trying to make over and over to people who drop by here: mental illness doesn’t override volition. Being depressed or bipolar or paranoid or whatever doesn’t automatically make you a killer.
You make a great point about how people who excuse these crimes based on mental illness are disrespecting others who struggle with such illnesses, but would NEVER harm their kids. I might just have to write a post about that…

I wish you would. People, who are mentally aren’t evil, nor is it an excuse to do horrible things. There’s real evil & cruelty out there. It has not to do with any illness. Why these people do the things they do, I don’t know. But I do know that as trench says, sometimes kids just kill. So, do adults. Yikes! I was married to this man 10 years ago. I knew the guy was self absorbed and I knew that he did not like children – but never would I have thought that he would deprive a child of food. Should have not married him on April Fools Day, huh? One thought . . . I am so glad that we never had a child together. Just think if I had to turn my child over to McDonald for visitation rights. It would just kill me.

Doesn’t any of you think that if these men were “only” smoking pot then at some point within 12 hours or more that at least one of tem would get the munchies? I’m sorry but smoking pot = hungry normally. There was more going on that they are not talking about – very bizarre. I knew that I was glad that I am not married to the guy anymore . . . but national news is definately confirmation.

I accept that you weren’t trying to be harmful when you made that comment.It’s just that it’s 2006 and we (hopefully) don’t lock our crazy relatives in the attic anymore. I know people that don’t live with these illnesses don’t understand. But, people really are either that afriad or ignorant about mental illness, that would really believe that. For the most part, crazy people are just like you. Going to work, raising families,good days,bad. Just muddling throught. I’ve tried to commit sucide over a dozen times but never once put a hand on my children or anyone else. Those kinda of comments just help keep scared, ignorant people that way. Just for shits and grins tell someone that you don’t know well. Your bipolar, wacth their face,actions. Everything changes. Try it once, you’ll understand what I mean.

ok little devil – I’m sure that everyone will agree that this conversation is not about “you”. She apologized. This conversation is about two crazy guys that did not feed a child for hours while they were self absorbed and obviously altering thier minds with some type of substance abuse. Let’s turn the conversation back to the wackos in the airport. Second of all – no one TRIES to commit suicide. Either you kill yourself or you don’t. Don’t blame littlesweeteyes because you have chosen to be mad at yourself and the rest of the world. Talk about ignorance!!! Again – this site is about “parents behaving badly” – if you have not behaved badly as a parent then congrats to you, but to be perfectly honest. . . if you do decide to kill yourself then consider your self “behaving badly” because only a self absorbed dumb ass will take it upon themself to take their child’s parent away from them purposely by commiting suicide. Moral of the story – don’t blame someone else because you sit and feel sorry for yourself a little too much.

Ok. I under.stand. I got the picture with your 1st response. I said I was sorry and I meant it. I do understand your point and that’s the only reason why I have and (again) am responding to it. I’m dropping this now and I’ll not respond to this page again. I only mean to comment on the case itself. and your are correct, (hopefully) we don’t lock our crazy reletatives in the attic anymore, We should PRAY for them. So, about the original situation at hand, everyone should pray for them as well. I will pray for you as well (even though I don’t know you), because you need to realize that there are relatives and some friends that love you very much and so does God. You don’t want to dissapoint them in the end. So, with that said. I hope things will return to the main subject and that’s irrisponsible people with their childrens.

If you want to add a little something… Steve lived in North Scottsdale at the time. In the upper right of the map (in red). The airport is completely on the other side of Phoenix. (about 45-hour w/o heavy traffic.)

OHHH – I’m on, I have moved on a loooong time ago. It is just sad to see someone that you were once in love with make such horrible decisions.
I have a wonderful family now that includes children and an awesome husband that I adore. It couldn’t get any better for me.
I just wish that the news that I heard about Kevin was good news. I wish that he could say that he is happy and healthy, but it is obvious that he is not. He used to love himself and grant it, that was the only person that he loved – but doesn’t even love himself anymore. Just sad – that’s all – really sad.

The news headlines happened to include both McDonald and Doll. The only point that I wanted to make was that this whole thing is just unbelieveable because of the relationship that I once had with one of these men. Never had I meant to make this web page about ME. Kevin has fallen a looong way DOWN HILL. That is the only point that I wanted to make. I just wish that he had made better decisions for himself. It is just sad.

Well i have known steve for almost 20 years he is a talanted DJ and has sadley chossen the wrong path and thank god his daughter was not hurt. but for the stupid people who are writing just to see their words on paper should look at themselves like you have never made the wrong choice and no steve is not gay he was not a bad father in the start his relationship was not good either but that was only half his fault and the3 girls mother was the other blame. maybe it was her and taking the girl away that broke steve and who cares what any of you think he was and is a great guy just lost and hea good hes in jai maybe he will get the help he needs to make amends i won’t give up on him and for all you ugly people out there i hope youo never have a fallen moment.

Hey, StevesTrueFriend – there has NEVER been as self-absorbed a person as Steve. He’s 36ish, and still thinks he’s a major player. He got Christine pregnant and then walked away. She works hard as a teacher to take care of her child, & had tried to let Steve be a parent. Of course, he doesn’t pay the ordered child support, misses visitations, has TWICE now gotten drugged up while taking care of her, and WE ARE DONE with the asshole.

Oh my. Well. Ya. That, in a nut shell, is what a lot of the sun brained stoned morons in Arizona are like. I did my druggie thing when I was a teenager. Before I got pregnant. Somehow, kids make the more sane of us grow up. But, then there are people like an old friend of mine. She used to get her 3 year old drunk, smoked crack with him sitting there, all kinds of really nice parental things. She worked as a 900 operator…the ones that do the sex calls, with him sitting there. I called CPS a few times on her. Nothing ever happened until one night I left in disgust while she was toking on her crack, stopped at the Circle K, and called 911. All that happened there was she dumped her shit down the toilet when she saw the cops out front.

I know what really happened…they were partying the night before heavily. Drinking, smoking pot etc…they told me so. Personally I dont partake in illegal substances, although it was offered to anyone that night. I was the unfortunate one who went home with him. The night and morning before leaving they left her at the airport…Believe me they shouldnt have been driving anywhere. I left “the party” because Steve was just too weird and controlling. He even called me as if nothing was wrong the next day. I was pained and in shock because he never once mentioned he had a child. That whole situation still horrifies me that this man let that happen to his little one.
