The Latest Fashion: Parents Running over Their Children with Lawn Mowers
This next story is less in the category of "placing blame", and more in the category of "Public Service Announcement". I was reading CNN.com today, and saw a link to a video clip about Isabelle Norton, a 2-year-old who received an artificial leg after her father, well, sorta kinda destroyed the flesh-and-blood one with a riding mower. I hit Yahoo! News to dig up some more information. I found nothing on Isabelle…but I did find several other cases in which kids were maimed or killed by lawn Zambonis this season. Exhibit A: Erin Shanahan of Hastings, NY ended up in serious condition after running out into the yard while her mom was mowing; her left foot was severed, her right foot broken. Exhibit B: In Veneta, Oregon, 2-year-old Tanner Ewert died after his father ran his over.
Like I said, I’m not chastising parents for accidents. But, fuck, people – that’s at least three mishaps, with the same dangerous device, in less than a month. Let’s all recognize a theme when we see one. Keep your kids inside and supervised when you cut the grass, eh? Any further infractions are PBB Hall of Shame fodder. Consider yourselves warned.

I just don’t get why kids are running around outside when people are mowing their lawns, period. Mine are either inside the house with Daddy, on the deck they can’t get off with me checking on them every 5 minutes, or in bed.
I don’t get it either. My kids are MUCH more inportant than my yard.

How awful it would be to live with the fact that you killed your baby when it could have been prevented.

The sad thing here is that I know the family of the 2yr old that died very well and OF COURSE his Dad will punish himself for the rest of his life. They can hardly get out of bed let alone read this kind of garbage that trashes them. Shame on you.
