Court of Appeals Orders Manipulative Dad to Pay $119,000 in Back Child Support

Massachusetts Court of AppealsPoor Robert Croak Jr. He probably thought he was being clever when he manipulated his work schedule to avoid paying an ass-ton of funds in child support. A nuclear power plant specialist by trade, Croak is unemployed for large periods of time as a matter of course. But the Massachusetts Courts of Appeals this week affirmed lower court rulings that Croak intentionally passed up on new gigs and lived off of his retirement savings as a way of skirting his support debt. Now the courts are ordering him to choke up $119,000 in back support to his ex-wife Lorraine Bergeron and their two wee ones.

Nice try, Mr. Croak. You would’ve gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for those meddling kids and that stupid wife!

Good luck to Ms. Bergeron in collecting on this backlog. Fortunately for her family, it sounds like Croak is plumb out of legal options shy of petitioning the Supremes. And I don’t see this case ending up there, given the lack of a Constitutional issue. You’re a deadbeat dad, dude. You didn’t pay when you knew you were obliged to. You received nearly half a million dollars between retirement account withdrawals and inheritance. How much of that did your kids see? Did you even stop to think about them while you were livin’ it up? I hope you spent that cash on something hardcore, like hookers and blow – ’cause you’re gonna be paying for your good time for many, many years to come.

    I am a mother of four and also an adult who had a DBD! My husband takes care of us. I work also but he is not a DBD. Hey in palm beach county with property taxes through the roof the kids may need jobs soon! (just a joke) If they get the jerk (meaning my dad), Lawrence D. Tibbs, to pay then I think my mom should get the money. She supported us ALONE with her money and went without things so that we could have what we needed. So if he pays then I say give it ALL to my mom. She deserves it! Plus she is not selfish and would to extras for her grandbabies.But I don’t want or need his change. My MOM deservesthe back pay!

    I work for a child support agency in Canada, and we do unfortunately see a lot of cases like this – huge back payments paid too late. The kids are over 18, and mom gets all this money. Where does the money go? More than likely not to the kids. There should be a statute of limitations. Or after the kids are 21 the money should go directly to them. Or something. The system has a way to go yet.

    Can you imagine, he filled another extension for another appeal!!Too bad Associated Press hasn’t found out about that. Some people will do anything to keep from supporting their kids.

    There are more and more dads getting custody of their kids now. Sometimes daddy is the better parent. Trust me, I know!!!!!!!!!!!!

    this story hits home. I just turned 18 and my mom and dad divorced when I was 7. My mom just left my dad to raise me and my brother. She worked as truck driver and she could take job or not my dad took her to court for child support and he won but she said that she didn’t have a job so they told her when she gets one to pay and that was all the court did for my dad. They didn’t follow up or anything. My dad went a while and decided to go back to court and she manipulated me and my brother to move in with her. and my dad went to court and told them he was starting to pay. About a month later we move out because she was doing drugs, my dad had to pay 2 monthes while he had us all because she wouldn’t tell the court we moved. When I was 13 my dad was moving and needed me to stay with my mother for the summer. She had a court date for her to start paying back child support that summer. She sit me down and told me that she was going to jail unless I told the court I lived with her and I did, after that she had a follow up court date and told me she was going to take me to my grampa’s in another state and locked up the phones from me so my dad wouldn’t know I’m coming. She still has payed child support or back child support. SO YEAH THE COURT LOVE THE MOTHERS.
