Nancy Dyer Naps as Toddler Takes Stroll on Interstate (UPDATED)
Seeing that the entire world has emailed me this story, I consider it my duty to blog it. Motorists and police were amazed – and frightened – to see little Damon Dyer walking along the high-speed Interstate 465. Miraculously, concerned adults got him off of the road before he was killed. These strangers showed more concern for Damon than his mother, Nancy Dyer, did. When police arrived at Dyer’s apartment, they found feces on the walls, her 2-year-old eating spaghetti from the floor, and Dyer herself asleep.
Mom’s reaction on hearing the news that her son had been scooped up from the freeway? “Oh, he got out again.”
Wow. Parenting that atrocious isn’t accidental, folks. That kind of negligence takes EFFORT.
This is apparently the second time police have had to scoop up Damon after he “got loose”. The first time, he was found wandering around a parking lot. Why no one paid a home inspection then is beyond me. At least justice is being served now: Dyer’s facing two counts of child neglect – one for Damon, and the other for the atrocious living conditions she maintained in her apartment. Methinks this woman will require more than a few parenting classes to get her kids back. Assuming, of course, that she even gives a shit about them.
UPDATED: Michelle in the comments supplied this pointer to a news report, which shows video of the apartment. There’s a heart-breaking shot of her two-year-old in a diaper that’s soaking with shit. The officer on the scene’s impression of mom: “She didn’t care.” Ugh.
UPDATE 2: Fellow crimeblogger peep Lost in Lima, Ohio kindly points us to Dyer’s MySpace page. God, I may never be able to listen to Evanescence ever again. Judging from her command of English, she’s obviously an intelligent woman. But she’s also obviously struggled with substance abuse, as evidenced from this entry about the first 60 days of recovery. If I’m a betting man, I’d say New Years sent her tumbling off the wagon…and her children suffered the consequences.

Fact : Nancy has been pregnant a total of 11 times in 15 years. 3 abortions, 2 miscarriages after the abortions, 5 children she tossed away like used kleenexes, and pregnant with 1.
Fact : Damon was found not once, but twice outside of his home, within a 3 week span, while his mother was sleeping.
Fact : December 30th, Damon was running down the slow lane of I-465.
Fact : December 30th, when police found her apartment, Gabriella was in a diaper FILLED with feces, and eating from the trash can, box…what have you…with dirty diapers near the food she was eating.
Fact : Nancy’s house was filthy and in disarray. Feces was wiped on the walls.
Fact : She had a blog and a forum about her case, which are now deleted.
Fact : in this blog, she called her children “imps”.
Fact : She has admitted that she is unable to care for these children.
Fact : On her myspace, she says she is going to turn to prostitution.
Fact : The father of the 2 children in question, was accused by his sister of molesting her, and Nancy knowing this, was still willing to let him come back to Indiana to stay with her and a 2 year old baby GIRL.
Fact : She admits to grabbing what she could, and moving hurriedly to Indiana, leaving behind most of her property, but her computer is in plain sight in her interviews.(Seems to me it was more important than a kitchen table for her kids)
Fact : Reports, from her father, states that he took them to the doctor immediately upon receiving them, and they were said to be “Malnourished and in need of dental care” and neither one of them had autism.
Fact : When her father obtained custody of the children, they were way below the functioning level of a 3 and 2 year old. They wouldn’t play or communicate, because they didn’t know how, and they only wanted held.
Fact : I have been keeping up with every aspect of this case, looking deeper than the news and have come to the conclusion that this woman is not fit to be a mother in any regards of the word.

Wild animals don’t treat their children like this.
Honk can ask for donations all they wish, but those donations wont help either of those children.. Nancy had plenty time over the past 3 yrs to help them to raise them to teach them instead she chose to spend her time on a pc strolling throuigh the net acting holier than thou. she has been known to cause hell for many people through out the net as well in real life status but she only see’s herself
as she will ever.. and now the lil oh me syndrome continues and the kids are left out yet again… maybe now with the help of others those cildren will be safe. be happy and will be loved and cared for… not to mention time quality time spent with them instead of against them.

Parents who don’t want their children should put them up for adoption – not abuse or neglect them.
What is this world coming to? Did you hear about the Youth Minister (Ronald Holcolm) who is also a prison guard that beat his little 5 year old daughter (Brooklyn) to death last week?

True there Tammy.. but I would guess that her former boyfriend best friends child, The kid she is carrying now will have a better chance now. Damon and Gab were gorgeous babes when born, and neither had any problems then, now suddenly Nancy cries they have this and that.

I do not know Nancy personally. I’ve merely done my homework, and spent a dollar to do a background, and get info from florida.
If i knew nancy personally, trust me, I would have made so many calls to CPS in regards to her home, and the care of those kids, this catastrophe with Damon would have never happend, because she wouldn’t have had her kids.
I am definately spreading the word around Indianapolis, and I’m considering taking out an ad in the paper here, to get people to STOP donating to “Honk for Kids”…They’re supposed to support abused children, not condone the abuse, which, is what they’re doing. I cannot believe, that a group, who claims to be “Child Advocates” can support a woman, who is charged with 5 counts of felony neglect. Sick…sick I say.

I’m so freaking sick of hearing “Poor Nancy and her problems!”
Nancy had her chances (several, according to her family). SCREW Nancy, and give those children a chance at a happy life with a stable mom and dad.
