In Aurora, Colorado, Susie Ida Quartey, 35, called 911 to report that her three-year-old daughter, Jolyn Torpoh wasn’t breathing. When officers arrived at their home, the child was dead. Quartey told police she was carrying Jolyn on her back when she and her daughter fell onto rocks in the family’s backyard.
However, police believe Quartey beat her daughter repeatedly with a metal towel rod and a clothes hanger. Autopsy photographs show that Jolyn suffered at least 50 blows, which resulted in puncture wounds and bruises along her legs, face and backside.
Quartey has been charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies. She is also charged with child abuse resulting in bodily injury, which is a misdemeanor.
Quartey is an immigrant from Ghana, and is being held on $500,000 bond because she’s considered a flight risk.
I’m not sure why this so-called mother has been charged with sexual assault. The newspapers reported that the child was found naked by police, but the coroner must have found something else.
Poor baby girl. Sounds like she had an awful and short life.

Ugg. This one is just sickening.
23-year-old Timothy Mallard intentionally dunked his 4-month-old baby’s hand into boiling water. Why anyone would do this to a 4-month old baby…I have no idea. Maybe he has high on crack? Oh, it could be because he’s is a border line retard with an IQ of 75.
After two days of crying and not receiving medical attention, this man decides to attempt to cover up the abuse with…a car crash. Again…retard.
After crashing his car and setting it on fire he proceeds to dangle his baby girl over the flames. He was actually attempting to hide her previous burns by re-burning her. Ugg.
Unlike him, doctors aren’t stupid. They were easily able to detect the two different burns, broken ribs and facial bruising inflicted upon this poor child and promptly had his ass thrown in jail.
If I were the judge, I would have first boiled then burned his testicles. He should get to feel what it’s like to be boiled and burned. He should also have his procreation privileges revoked.

Julie sends us this story of an Oregon man traveling on vacation with his fiancée and their 4 kids, two of them (12 and 14) riding in the trunk.
Apparently this man was too cheap to rent a larger vehicle or travel in two cars. Both would have been my choice over throwing my kids in the trunk.
I guess the couple thought pulling up to a gas station and letting your two kids out of the trunk wouldn’t look too suspicious. Well, it did…and someone called the cops on them.
By the time the cops caught up with them, the kids had been traveling in the trunk for over 20 miles.
Back in high school I knew some kids that would do this. We knew it was a bad idea back then. If only there was someone with high school level intelligence around to tell them this was a bad idea.

Did you know that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month? Obviously, this woman didn’t.
In North Avondale, Ohio Beverly Fears, 24, locked her five-year-old son in a closet and left her 20-month-old child in a pack ‘n’ play overnight while she went to work at her customer-service job at Dell Corp. (And now you know what kind of people you’re dealing with when you call Dell’s help line, geez.)
A neighbor called police when she heard the five-year-old calling for help, pounding on the walls, and crying. The police arrived at 2 a.m. and found the older child in a closet covered with feces and urine. He had multiple bruises and ligature marks on his wrists showing that he had been tied up.
The 20-month-old boy has osteoporosis, suffers from malnutrition, and had such severe diaper rash that his skin was peeling off.
Fears is in jail on a $500,000 bond and has been charged with two counts of kidnapping (maybe she didn’t have custody?) and 12 counts of child endangering.
This is not a case of a poor, single mom having to leave her kids overnight so she could work. This is a case of extreme neglect and abuse. 100 years in prison sounds about right to me.

In Manasquan, NJ Kathlene DeMichele, 46, killed her nine-year-old son, Charles DeMichele by stabbing him several times with a knife. Then she threw his body out of second-floor window to a parking lot behind their apartment building. His body was found in their minivan. Sometime afterwards, she attempted to kill herself.
Charlie DeMichele was buried dressed in his Cub Scout uniform. The local community rallied in support of the family by donating funeral services, the burial plot and vault, flowers and limo service for the funeral.
Prosecutors have not told the press what may have triggered the murder. However, the DeMicheles’ neighbors said that the mom was having difficulties managing the demands in her life as a single parent and her job as a school bus driver. Still, people were shocked that she killed Charles because he was a sweet kid and she was a nice woman.
NJ child protective services had no history of reports of abuse or neglect. Kathlene is being held in Monmouth County jail in Freehold on $1 million bail.
My feeling is that she tried to do a murder-suicide, and failed at the suicide part. What a sad, sad story.
(And thanks to reader “afriendofyourss” for the tip.)

Normally I’m not one to point a finger and blame somebody for a suicide, but I can’t help but feel the parents could have prevented this.
Taylor Jo Doherty, 14, was ridiculed by her classmates for being bisexual.
When she confided in her mother and father about her bisexuality, they disowned her and kicked her out.
Taylor left class, went to get a gun and shot herself.
One of the roles of being a parent is to be there when things get rough for your kids. Not to kick them out on the street.

A Detroit woman was arrested and her FIVE kids placed in custody after she arrived at a hotel with her 7-year-old daughter, a duffel bag full of sex toys and dresses for the little girl.
The woman was prepared to offer her daughter “for pornographic photos and anything else that was available if the price was right,” Sheriff Warren Evans said.
Police had setup a sting operation in order to capture this woman after suspecting her of distributing child pornography. Though what they found turned out to be much more disturbing.
It’s unclear if this is the first time she has involved any of her children in this. My instincts tell me yes.
These kids are all going to need some serious life long therapy. We’re all hoping she’s going away for a very long time.

Some mystery mom has been running around abandoning her newborns…immediately getting pregnant and abandoning her baby again. She has now done this three times, each new one 11 months apart from the previous.
The frist newborn was found on a park bench. The second was found in the back of a parked pickup truck. The third, unfortunately, was not found in time and died of exposure. All three were within two blocks of eachother.
The police are baffled as to who this could be and have been asking around the community about a girl with 3 pregnancies and no children.
It seems odd, in a town where everyone knows eachother, there isn’t a single soul that knows who is doing this.
Come on people! We’ve gotta find this woman and get her spayed!

UPDATE: Joseph and Sonya Smith of Marietta, Ga., were sentenced to life plus 30 years in prison in the beating death of their eight-year-old son, Josef. Josef died after he was locked in a wooden and wicker box.
Joseph admitted to hitting his son, and justified it saying that his son had behavioral issues. He also claimed that he son was “Legion, soldier of the devil.” Evidence showed that he was beat with glue sticks. Josef was also locked in a closet and forced to pray to Jesus.
When the superior court judge read the couple their sentence, he told them that what they did should be punishable to the fullest extent of the law – a life sentence plus additional time.
The Smiths are members of the Remnant Fellowship Church. Former Remnant members say the the church supported the use of corporal punishment as a way to discipline children. However, police testified that they could not find any link between the boy’s death and the church.
Ever get the feeling that the Smiths used their church’s teachings as a justification to beat the crap out of their boy? I’m sure they’ll find lots of time in prison to pray about what they did to Josef.
