Virkisha Warren Drowns her Three-Month-Old Son

Joel

In Savannah, Georgia, Virkisha Warren, 21, drowned her 3-month-old son, Brandon. Then she put him in a trash bag, put the bag in the car, picked up the baby’s father and went to his house.

The baby’s dad told police that Warren had a black trash bag sitting on her lap. When he opened the bag, he discovered his son inside. God, how unbelievably horrifying.

Someone at the home called 911. When police arrived they found a neighbor administering CPR to the baby.  The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Warren told the police that she awoke and found her son not breathing. Since she didn’t have a phone, she got in the car to drive the baby to his father’s house to call 911. According to her, she found the baby’s father along the way, picked him up and then proceeded to drive to his home. Then they called 911. However, when they interviewed the father, police knew something was up.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an autopsy to see how Brandon died.

Well, obviously there’s more going on here than what the news reported. There’s nothing in the article to say why the police think she drowned the baby or is guilty of anything other than horrible judgement by putting her dead baby in a trash bag. I’ll admit I’m always one of the first to believe someone is guilty, but in this case I’ll reserve jugment until I see more details.

I have to agree with you here. It doesn’t say if she has other children, or if she had proper medical care (both physical and mental). It’s a horrible situation when a child dies (she could be inexperienced and turned her back to get a towel or just suffering severe PPD), but I don’t believe either is an excuse for murder. I think the situation is a little cloudy at this point, and I’d like some more info.

OK, here’s an article with a few more details: http://www.wsav.com/midatlantic/sav/news.apx.-content-articles-SAV-2008-04-04-0012.html

Still, there’s nothing in here to say why police think she drowned him or “her story didn’t add up.” Maminka, I agree that I can see how she might have looked away for a moment – being an inexperienced mom – and in that moment her baby accidentally drowned.

Of course, if she actually DID kill her baby and is going to argue PPD, then I want to be the first in line to slap her around. The depression defense always makes me nuts, because depression might make you self-destructive but it DOESN’T make you want to hurt others. And it certainly doesn’t JUSTIFY harming your baby.

I guess we’ll still have to wait for more details on this one.

This story does not add up at all.

If she found the baby not breathing why did she wrap him in a trash bag and drive x-amount of miles to find dad and then it dawns on someone to call an ambulance? My first reaction would be to go to my neighbors house. You can also dial 911 from any pay phone. Another good idea would be to take the baby to the hospital yourself!! HELLO!!

Of course she is pushing the PPD excuse and she will walk.

loving_mom, I do agree with you. I was just thinking that if I had turned my back as an inexperienced mom and had my darling drown, I would lose my mind after trying cpr and calling for help any way I could. The article (thank you Ihavekidstoo for taking the time to get more info for us) says that she had mental problems to begin with, so if it was an accident she wouldn’t be able to keep it together enough to do anything normal or needed to save the child. But it’s sounds more and more like she did this on purpose and rubbed the fathers face in it. Almost like payback.

They are saying that she did infact drowned her son.

  • Amber Says:

honestly. if i woke up to my child not breathing, i would a) attempt to resuscitate the child or b) grab said child, running out of the house screaming “HELP ME!” i’m quite sure someone will ask whats up and have me use their cell or house phone.

    excuses excuses.

“A Savannah woman today was sentenced to 30 years in jail with most of it to be served on probation in the 2008 slaying of her 3-month-old son.”

Lovely. She’ll be ready to have more babies to murder in just a few short months.
