Hammer out the demons

Couple Accused of Beating Baby With Hammer to Rid Her of ‘Demons’:

Let me preface this by saying that I am proud to be a Christian. I believe in God. I believe Christ is the savior. However I also temper my faith with a healthy dose of reality. Unlike these people…

Teen Breeders Blaine Milam and Jessica Carson have been arrested in the beating death of Carson’s 13-month-old daughter Amora Bain Carson. They allegedly beat her to death to ‘rid her of demons’.

They originally told police that Amora was in a car accident, then they told them that she was attacked by dogs, then changed their story to that she hit herself in the head with a hammer.

Eventually they broke down and allegedly told police they were trying to rid the child of demons. But it doesn’t end there. They went to a pawn shop to get money for an exorcism after they killed Amora.

I don’t believe in demonic possession. In my religious upbringing I was always told by clergy that it was the stuff of movies. However even in all the legends and movies the exorcisms are usually performed while the subject is alive.

Milam had previously been sentenced to probation for sexually assaulting a child. Even though I don’t have the details of what happened then one has to wonder.

Hurting another human being this way (child or not) is unbelievable! Then to use their religion as an excuse. Demons, evil whatever. I’m not religious at all but I respect others beliefs this wasn’t a belief this was two mentally sick pigs who killed their kid and needed an excuse that they thought people would believe.

I’m not religious at all, but I’m respectful of others’ beliefs.
I’m also not mentally ill, but I understand that for those who are, the reality they craft in their minds is as true for them as the REAL real world is for us. There’s too little info yet in this case to make a determination, but if these people truly believed they were exorcising demons from their child, they were not only woefully misguided…they were mentally ill and probably not responsible for their actions. And I just can’t vilify someone who’s ill.
On the other hand, if they’re just child abusers, give them the maximum and don’t look back.

Hmm, maybe the bf got caught touching the little girl and he claimed she was possesed and seduced him and the mom bought it? I just can’t even fathom the logic behind beating a baby to death.

Why is it the majority of stories that you hear about religious nut-jobs killing or abusing children in the name of their religion seem to come from Texas?

Have to say, glad I’m not the religious type. Never let anyone or anything get that much control over your mind.

I believe Jesus died for our sins, and is the Son of God. And that he rose 3 days after His death.

I believe in demons, because Jesus cast them out of people.

I don’t believe Jesus ever used a hammer on a baby in order to remove demons. He never used any act of violence when healing anyone. The only time he did anything resembling violence was when he turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple. And that was totally justified. [And no one went away with bruises from His doing that.]

    Unbelievable.

Uhm, thanks Angel, lol. I wasn’t going for laughs, but I guess what I said did have that level of ironic humor.

It just appalls me the things that are done in the name of religion: misunderstood religion.

Like, from my reading of the Bible, I don’t think God or Jesus or any of the Apostles would have approved of the American Indians having been given the choice of “become Christian or we kill you”. :P

Whoa… sudden flashback to the movie Chronicles of Riddick. “Convert now, or fall forever.”

I prefer “Please convert… I don’t want you to fall forever”, instead of “Convert now or I’m going to stick this knife in you and make you fall forever faster.” :P

I tend to agree with you, Sith. I am a Christian, too. But a lot of the garbage being touted as Christian principles, is really nothing more than someone twisting the Word of God to suit their own needs, and justify their actions. People like that tend to give true Christians a bad name, and are responsible for turning more people away from God than all of the atheists combined.

I know of a few myself who constantly quote the “Wives obey your husbands” verse like a personal mantra (while completely ignoring the companion verse “Husbands, love your wives”), simply because they would rather be the ‘boss’ than be right according to God’s word.

It seems that a lot of the people on this site take those verses, and the “Spare the rod, spoil the child” verse waaay out of context. Why are some people like that?

I’m not sure, Angel. I expect some people have been really rubbed the wrong way by some religious people.

Some people try to reach others gently, and then some take their Bible and hit others over the head with it, lol. Well, eventually, the other person is going to be very sore headed about it. ;)

And then, just to make things even more interesting, you keep seeing in the news about this evangelist who was caught sleeping around on his wife, or this priest who molested these children, or… you get the idea.

Hank Hannegraff, also known as “The Bible Answer Man”, [ http://www.equip.org/ ] says that the Bible is under siege. And that may well be a part of it. People who already have an ax to grind against “religion” and “religious people” may be being prompted by the devil to grind that ax harder and faster. They just don’t know they are being urged to do so.

And there are probably quite a few people who do believe in God, but are very angry with Him.
