Man leaves 3-year-old in diaper for over a month
Boy Left In Old Diaper, Critical In Pittsburgh Burn Unit:
34-year-old Jesus Rodriguez of Greensburg, PA was arrested after it was discovered his 3-year-old son had caustic burns on his body. The child got the burns because his idiot father hadn’t changed his diaper in over a month. His 4-year-old daughter also has redness and marks on her body.
Of course Rodriguez’s apartment was strewn with garbage, old food, and what the article called ‘waste’.
And if you’re wondering where the mother is she’s currently in jail.
I’ll be honest here. I never had any kids of my own that were diaper age. I inherited two wonderful step-kids when they were 8 and 11. However even I know that a diaper needs to be changed more than once a month. Hell, it may even need to be changed more than once a day.
When neglect of this magnitude happens the breeders should have their parental rights terminated and any future parental rights forfeited.
Thanks again to LadyJade for the tip.

this poor guy died this week. i needed him for financial support
May 9th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
on one of my first post on this story, i posted a link with the pictures of the child’s burns. pretty horrific. another possibility is that dad ws changing him every now and then but not cleansing the skin after a soiled diaper. if he was sick and not capable of doing much…maybe he would just replace the diaper? as everyone else said, the diaper would literally fall off after even one day from the weight.

Ummmm ya sorry I understand that this is a horrible story and all but i do not believe it to be true well complete truth…the man could of left the diaper on for days maybe but I know my daughter will wake up from a 8 – 12 hour over night sleep with a heavy diaper and we buy name brand…. but the ponit is if i leave that diaper on for even five minutes while making breakfast the velcro tag that attaches back to front starts comming undone or breaks from the weight of the bodily fluids

I have to agree with howard. Something just doesn’t sound right..
April 23rd, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Something doesnt ring true here, this story is made up or over exaggerated. Diapers dont last that long and even if it was falling apart, it would have fallen off or leaked shit all over the dad.

this is the first i’ve seen an article about his health…it puts things in a different light…have the children been tested to see if they’re positive for HIV? the article you posted said the baby was in the diaper for days…not a month like the other one stated (a little more feasible. you know eerin, sometimes i don’t know where to place the blame or who to hold accountable…just so many children…such cruel treatment…

Karen, I do agree with everything you say and I do understand that the uncle has a life but burns like that just don’t happen over night or over a week. that happens over a few weeks of not cleaning a child or taking the proper care.
I also hold the mother responsible also because she is incarcerated and did not make sure that5 someone more competent than the father was taking care of the child or children. The father and mother are both negligent.
Below I posted an article about the situation.
Greensburg father of children living in filth has AIDS

A Greensburg man arrested on Christmas Day when his child was found with caustic burns caused by a dirty diaper is seriously ill from HIV/AIDS in a Pittsburgh hospital, according to several sources familiar with the case.
Although he would not confirm what illness 34-year-old Jesus Rodriguez has, Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck said his office notified the Children’s Bureau. He does not know where Rodriguez’s two children are living.
story continues below
“He’s incapacitated,” Peck said. “We’ve contacted the Children’s Bureau to make sure they’re notified so they can notify whoever has custody of the children.”
Rodriguez was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangering another person after his children were found injured in his filthy apartment.
Police said they found his 3-year-old son wearing a diaper that had been soiled for days. A relative of their mother found the boy screaming in pain and notified police. Rodriguez’s 4-year-old daughter had a burn-type wound on her leg, and both children were covered in feces, police said.
The boy was taken to the burn unit at West Penn-Allegheny Hospital, suffering from second-degree caustic burns on his genitals and legs.
Greensburg police Chief Walter “Wally” Lyons said the prosecution of Rodriguez may not continue because of his failing health.
“Our understanding is the prognosis isn’t a positive one,” Lyons said.
Earlier this month, prosecutors asked that Rodriguez’s preliminary hearing be delayed because he was hospitalized. A hospital spokesman had no information on Rodriguez’s condition Friday.
Westmoreland County President Judge John Blahovec Thursday reduced Rodriguez’s $1 million bond to $1 million unsecured bond so deputy sheriffs would no longer have to guard him around the clock, said a clerk in the judge’s chambers.
Rodriguez acted irrationally, was evasive during questioning by police, mumbled to himself and spoke incoherently when he appeared before Greensburg District Judge James Albert for arraignment.
Warden John Walton said Rodriguez was in the Westmoreland County Prison’s disciplinary unit Jan. 2 when officers found him incoherent. He was taken to the jail Dec. 26 and was housed in the general population unit until he violated prison rules and was placed in solitary confinement.
When prisoners are processed at the prison, they are not asked about specific ailments, Walton said.
“We ask them about any medical conditions,” the warden said. “I knew he didn’t tell us what he had. I don’t know if he knew.”
Rodriguez was taken from the prison earlier this month to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, then transferred to Pittsburgh, according to Walton.
Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico, is wanted in Philadelphia on drug charges. The children’s mother is in prison. The Children’s Bureau does not comment on specific cases.

that’s a good point steve, but even with a cloth diaper…left on just overnight, you’d find it down around the ankles from the weight of elimination.
kathy…nice to meet you!!! i’m always glad to meet another foster parent. someone on here stated that the father is sick and dying? i haven’t kept up on this one…does anyone have a link to the article? also, no….you can’t hold the uncle responsible…just because they lived in the same building doesn’t mean he stopped in to see them on a daily basis. he has his own life and if he didn’t suspect things were bad, he may very well have not stopped by. i hold the father responsible…even if he is sick…someone could have been called in to help. where was the mom?

This is unreal! How can you leave a child in a diaper that long? First, if that heavy, it would fall down his/her legs, would it not? My son is three, and is in Pull-Ups. He lets me know when he “poops.” I can usually smell it, as well. I change him about three times a day. When those Pull-Ups are loaded with pee they start falling down his legs.. As for this person? Bad Parenting, at it’s finest (worst).

Those people saying the nappy would have disintegrated: consider that it might have been a cloth nappy rather than a disposable.
February 12th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
THE UNCLE LIVED IN THE SAME F’N BUILDING WHY DID HE NOT DO SOMETHING SOONER. I HOLD HIM RESPONSIBLE ALSO CONSIDERING THE MAN THAT DID THIS IS VERY SICK AND DYING WHY DID THE UNCLE NOT STEP IN?
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I cant believe this i have a 3 year old daughter and a grandson who will be 1 in march. my daughter has been using the potty since she’s been about 2 and my grandson can have any thing from 5 to 10 nappy changes a DAY.

Karen, thanks for taking up for us foster parents. I agree that so often we get a bad rep when it’s really only a minority of foster parents who harm kids… just like only a minority of parents harm their kids.
As for this guy… he’s an idiot. Is he a druggie? Is the 3 year old mentally handicapped? My son was ripping his diaper off at 12 months old and bringing me the poop (minutes AFTER I changed his wet diaper). They always poop immediately after getting a clean diaper. lol
Praise God for the uncle.

I’M JUST WATCHING THIS VIDEO,NOW I’M REALLY PISSED TO THINK THIS MAN LET THIS HAPPEN,PUT ONE ON HIM AND LET HIM SIT IN IT SEE WHAT HAPPENS,SOOOO MADDDD
January 19th, 2009 at 12:59 am
I’M SURE THERE MORE TO THIS STORY,THEN WHAT BEEN SAID,AS A PARENT,I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS WOULD HAPPEN,WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE,NOT ALL,THOSE BABY’S DIDN’T ASK TO COME HERE YOU BROUGHT THEM HERE ,NOW YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM,IF YOU CAN’T TAKE OF THEM,THERE ARE FOSTER HOMES,DON’T ABUSE THE KIDS,I’M SO SAD TO HERE THAT THIS HAPPENS,VERY SADDDDDD!!!!!!
January 17th, 2009 at 5:20 am
it’s eating away his skin like corrosive acid in the pictures. this is about the most disgusting thing i’ve ever seen. were the fumes making this poor little guy too dizzy to peel the diaper off of himself?
January 14th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
Karen, that’s a good point. If the child was 3, why didn’t they just take it off? I can understand a 6-month-old, but not a walking toddler. I can only imagine the smell that exhumed from this diaper. He’s either a complete idiot or a child abuser…either one I wouldn’t want to believe they are out there.
January 1st, 2009 at 11:52 pm
If it weren’t for the uncle saving the kids’ lives, that poor little guy’s dirty diaper would’ve LITERALLY eaten his skin away even further! Kudos to that uncle, I really wanna’ pat him on the back and share a hi-five with him (seriously, you know what a “hi-five” means)!
January 1st, 2009 at 5:36 pm
I saw those pictures It it just seems unreal that someone would do that. it makes me wonder why the kid didn’t do something to take it off. did the guy duck tape it to the poor boy. Or maybe there is something wrong with the child and he didn’t know that he could take it off. its all just weird.
January 1st, 2009 at 11:02 am
What? This is just plain evil. The baby had to be in so much pain this guy is a total loser. Thank God for the uncle it definitively save their lives.
December 30th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Why is this man smiling in his mugshot?! WTF IS HE THINKING?!?!?!? Every soiled diaper is LITERALLY eating that poor boy’s skin away! I hope the poor kids are okay. That asshat and his vile fat whore so-called wife DO NOT deserve the opportunity to procreate ever again!
December 30th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
OMG! I am at a lost for words over this story. I’m a little puzzled by the fact that the diaper didn’t just fall off or better yet, the 3-year-old didn’t pull it off after so long.
Thank goodness that someone in the family finally stepped up and did something about this.
December 29th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
as a foster/adoptive mother, i would beg ANY of you who see the abuse or neglect of a child to PLEASE report it to the dcs/cps hotline in your area immediately. if it’s unfounded, then steps may still be taken to keep an eye on the family. remember though, report it to the hotline, not just the cps division….it then has to be checked out within 24 hours unless you feel the child is immediate danger, in that case they would have to send someone out right then and there. to report just to cps, it can get lost in the mix of things or take way too long to investigate. you may very well be some child’s angel and save their lives or at least have them removed from the situation that’s making their lives a living hell. also, don’t be afraid that you may be “putting the child in a worse situation” by having them in a foster home. the majority of us fostering are loving, nurturing parents…trying to repair the damage caused by others . you just don’t read about us in the media….just like you don’t read about the really great birth parents out there. i guess we’re not news worthy….you only hear of the jackasses that never should have had a kid in the first place.
December 29th, 2008 at 10:10 am
I’m with the blogger on the link Karen posted. Here’s to the uncle for stepping up and doing the right thing.
I get really tired of reading about families who defend the inexcusable actions of their members. This guy took immediate action and possibly saved his nephew and niece’s lives. I’d like to shake his hand.
And kick the CRAP out of the kids’ father.
December 29th, 2008 at 12:25 am
It’s really scary that people out there are so lazy that they can’t take some time to keep there house clean. THis goes beyond that though, these kids were saved by an angel, thier uncle, thank God. Hopefully they recover fully and are able to get into a good home.
December 28th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
oh geeze…they have pictures up of that poor child’s injuries…never saw anything like this…how could someone do this????
http://www.theweeklyvice.com/2008/12/jesus-rodriguez-pennsylvania-man.html
December 28th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
I propose to let Mr. Rodrguez either wear a soiled diaper for a month and subsist in his own filth, or make him take out the trash for a daycare center for 6 months as punishment. I don’t care how long he left it on. Over 3 days is unexcusable, and it sounds like there’s more to the story. Even more disturbing facts.
December 28th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
oh…i just reread the article…i thought it was an infant…but he was 3? i agree….most 3 year olds will take it off as soon as they wet/dirty. there has to be more to this story…was the child by some chance tied/restrained to something, that he wasn’t able to remove it? it had to have been on for some time though for him to receive burns like that. there was obviously neglect going on with the home in that condition. however, it says the 4 year old had redness and marks on her body….i have a couple of little ones that are 4 and still wear pullups to bed due to off and on accidents. the one little girl can only wear a certain brand or else she wakes up with what looks like a horrible redness all over her little tush and a raised up rash on top of the redness.she ha very tender skin. while i’m in NO way defending daddy dearest…i know it can happen. sounds like these two tots are candidates for a loving foster home (i know we foster parents get a bad rap in the media, but believe me…there are plenty of us out here that offer a safe haven and a permanent home to those who cannot return to their bio parents.)
December 28th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
I think the diaper would fall apart. you know if the kid is three its time to start potty training especially if your not going to change his diaper. Do him a favor and just potty train him. I potty trained my three year old step son when we got our kids back from their horrible mother. It took Two weeks and he had it down. thats just lazy.
December 28th, 2008 at 2:06 am
like karen i have no idea how this is even possible. first of all, she’s exactly right about it disintegrating. honestly, try putting a diaper in a bowl of water and see how long it lasts. but here’s what i don’t understand… we’re talking about a 3 YEAR old kid here, not a 3 month old. why didn’t he take off his own diaper? sure not blaming him, but it just makes no sense to me. regardless, i’m glad that poor baby is out of that hellhole and i hope he can make a full recovery. physically anyway…
December 27th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
OMG!!!!!!! i have to buy the huggie overnights for my 17 month old son because he’s a heavy wetter at night time…and he STILL leaks through a bit. you know, the type where the diaper weighs abouy 20 lbs. and he needs to be changed IMMEDIATELY upon waking. i can’t even fathom a diaper on for a month…i would think it would have disentegrated and literally fell off the baby. i’m a biological mother of 7 and adopted the last 7…..i thought i had seen it all, but this takes the cake. once again, did nobody whatsoever notice?????? i mean even another druggie or what have you…would you think someone would have noticed the crying and stench and taken 3 minutes out of their busy schedule to change this baby???
