Stepdad admits he raped, set girl on fire:
This is one of those stories that makes me wonder why I never heard of it before and why didn’t it get more media attention?
28-year-old Chris Newberry (pictured) of Wichita, Kansas area, pleaded guilty to rape, attempted murder and multiple counts of aggravated arson. He could get from 40 years to life when sentenced.
Newberry admitted to the court that he not only raped his 10-year-old stepdaughter but that he doused her in lighter fluid and set her on fire. But he removed his own daughter from the bedroom before setting his stepdaughter on fire.
The 10-year-old remembers hearing the click of the lighter just as she woke up. The 4-year-old said she went back in the room and saw her stepsister on fire.
I have a stepdaughter myself and when I first got married she was 8 years old. I personally went to great lengths to make sure any action I did around here couldn’t be construed as improper. I couldn’t imagine why this scumbag would even think of doing this.
40 years to life is a joke. This assclown should get at the very least LWOP.
Sentencing is set for October 30th.

Are you F***ING kidding me??? Did I actually just read in that article that family members were quoted as saying “they suspected sexual abuse for some time”???? WTF??? So they did NOTHING? Those assholes all deserve to be put to death. I cannot even fathom how that trailer trash just sat around discussing their “suspicions” for god knows how long and didn’t do a single thing to help that poor little girl. I am going to be sick.

FAMILY MEMBERS REPORTED SUSPICIONS FOR SEVERAL YEARS!! THE AUTHORITIES COULDN’T HAVE PROOF. THE CHILD WAS AFRAID TO TALK TO THE AUTHORITIES. Soooooo! DON’T BLAME THE REST OF THE FAMILY. THE SCUMBAG’S WIFE WOULDN’T BELIEVE THE ALLEGATIONS. THE CHILD GOT IN TROUBLE EVERY TIME AUTHORITIES CAME TO INVESTIGATE.

Who did you report the abuse to? If you had reported it to CPS, they would have had to investigate – it’s their freakin’ job! If there had been any investigation at all, the proof would have been produced with a medical exam. I call BULLSH*T!
Also, if the egg donor refused to believe her child, and allowed this abuse to continue, right under her nose, then she should be in jail with the perverted SOB. Why was she not charged as well? Both of the DNA donors are worthless pieces of excrement, and unless you can prove that you did something other than talk with other family members about the abuse, you are no better.
And using ALL CAPS doesn’t make your comment any better, it just gives other readers a headache.

Grandma was trying to be civil in the interview when she suggested he get help. AND, CPS were the ones who were contacted and investigated. Nothing came of it. As far as her biological father’s DNA, he is deceased. It was her stepfather who raped her and set her on fire. So, don’t judge what you don’t know!!!!

If there were reports made to CPS there would be a file and yet no mention was made of it in the file? Sorry I don’t buy it.
And grandma said “Why couldn’t you get help for your problem?”. Sorry but it sounds exactly like the family thought he could “get help” and be all better. Sorry but pedophiles can’t live with kids, they just can’t. I believe they can be rehabilitated to the point that they can function in society but they can’t be parents, teachers, etc.

Sorry, mystic, I disagree. Pedophiles can only be rehabilitated…..by killing them. That’s the only way to ensure that they will never harm a child again. You cannot ‘keep them away’ from kids – that is logistically impossible.
I’ll be happy to help with his rehabilitation, though…..I’ll loan them my Glock, and the hollow point.

Several of us reported to the CPS. We didn’t just sit around talking about it. Also, the schools reported to CPS. The ball was dropped!!!

Sadly sexual abuse is a top reason that children enter foster care. We have seen an increase in women offenders, but the vast majority of offenders is still men. Men, who for some sick reason, think that a 2 y/o looks like a viable outlet for their perverted desires. Sometimes they like to blame the mother… “well, you won’t give me what I need. I have a right to get it somewhere.” Sometimes, the mothers trade the kids for drugs, rent, whatever. Or, mom is so desperate for a man, that she doesn’t mind sharing him with her kids. Sadly, I believe there is a LOT of sexual abuse (as well as other types of abuse) that never gets caught.
No one has a right to harm a child, especially in such a demoralizing way. I would like my job to end. I would like there to be no need for me to step in and pick up the broken pieces of a child and try to knit her back together. I would prefer to eat Oreos and watch TV instead of holding the hand of a broken child who’s afraid to go to sleep at night because that’s when the monsters would come into his room. I’d like to teach children why the leaves turn colors in the fall instead of calming their fears about things that happened to them in the woods at the hands of so-called adults.
As for waste of DNA in this article, shoot him. You can’t fix someone who has no moral compass. Just shoot him and use my tax dollars to treat the child.

I thought the article says the least he will get is life, with chance of parole in 40 years?? If he had a chance to get as small of a sentence as 40 yrs then something is wrong with our society.

Its called “faint hope”. There is a belief, rightly or wrongly, in the judicial system that prisoners will behave better if they have at least a tiny bit of hope that one day they will be set free.
Nothing says he *will* be allowed out in 40 years time or even that he will live 40 years.
The other reason for letting him make a deal is that it means that the kids do not have to testify. I’m not a child psychologist be any means but the current belief seems to be that testifying is very stressful for kids and these kids don’t need that kind of stress. Particularly the 4 year old, she really shouldn’t be asked to stand up and make statements that are going to put her dad in jail. Yes he isn’t much of a father but psychologically kids are very dependent on their parents and like it or not that is her dad. Its bad enough she has to grow up knowing that, its worse to potentially have a 4 year old think that her “daddy” is in jail forever because of her.
So this deal was probably the best option.

Soak his clothes in gasoline, shove a few cylinder shaped what ever, (VERY LARGE ONES) up his ass and light him on fire. OOOOPS, where did we put that darn fire extiquisher, oh well, he’ll burn out eventually. Scum of earth piece of shit family too. To do nothing for this little girl, I agree, if it had been reported previously, it would be spread all over that CPS failed again. Its an untalked about secret in alot of families lives, and this little girl probly threatened to tell, or did tell, and he wanted to stop her from talking. Guy isnt too bright anyhow, if he had succeded in ending the darlings life, he’s still be up on murder and everything else. I’m glad the girl lived, but 40% of her bodie, the poor girl. Hopefully someone will come to her aide now and help her heal and plastic sergery, she deserves to be supported for the rest of her life as a queen for living thru such an awful thing. God Bless You.

Thanks, Jolene. You’ll notice that she didn’t bother to respond to me. That’s because she is a liar. Did you notice the relevance of the ‘L Johnson’ moniker? She is the grandmother who is currently caring for the child. Her guilt made her come here, looking for sympathy for her entire disgusting family, and our failure to provide that sympathy will probably guarantee her continued absence from this point forward.

WTF?!?!? Like that makes him any less an animal because he was able to ‘own up to it’? Or maybe she thought that if he had gotten help, he would have been able to stop screwing children? She’s as delusional as he is. I am absolutely disgusted that someone who has this mindset would be ALLOWED to get custody of this child – or any child, for that matter.
The news article also never said whether Linda was the pedo’s mom, or whether she spawned the bitch that allowed the abuse. My guess is that she is the pedo’s mom. Hence the attempted defense for his actions. Maybe if someone were to set her on fire, she wouldn’t be so quick to defend this monster.
As a grandmother, her job was to protect the child – especially if the parents were not doing it. She failed.

I am not the pedo’s mom. I am also not the mom’s mom. I am the mother of her biological father, who is deceased. I was not defending the stepdad who did this to my sweet granddaughter. And, I know that pedophiles cannot be cured. And, you cannot say I failed. I reported my suspicions several times to CPS, as did others. Every time CPS investigated, this child got in trouble. She was afraid to tell them anything because he had threatened to hurt or kill her. I am confident he will get what he deserves.

No. Absolutely not! Pedos and rapists are not ’sick’ in the truest sense of the word. They are broken. They were born without a necessary human component, and no medication or therapy will ever be able to replace that. Rapists who opt for chemical castration often go on to commit rapes using a “substitute phallus” (pool cue, beer bottle, etc.) because their penis no longer works. Child molesters cannot be ‘taught’ to not like children. They are broken. Their moral compass no longer gives an accurate reading. They are not capable of functioning in society, because they will ALWAYS have that desire for the forbidden. They may be able to control it for a while….but they will not be able to control it forever.
Bullets are cheap and effective – and children deserve to be safe from these wild animals.

So, here we have a whole family who “suspects sexual abuse” the thing is…I myself have 4 kids…3 of which have been sexually abused by my inlaws. They were in the states custody for 10 months due to a bullshit family fued we had going on between our familes. My husbands family is Mormon. We all knew it was happening. My husband,myself, my family and several other friends and family members who saw my children in that time frame. CPS was notified almost DAILY about the bruises, welts, rashes, infections etc….they DID NOTHING. Until the CASA on our case saw my 2 year old son at the time come home to me for a visit with badly bruised genitals. I had called her the minute I found the bruising. We took pictures, everyone in my family made a report to CPS. They were forced to finally investigate the reports because their child advocate called the police for child abuse. It took 10 months of my children being in the wrong hands to be returned to my home. Now I typically would not share this type of story but it just goes to show that sometimes the reports go ignored. Some social workers have a bias against the family. Sometimes they dont help to punish the family who the children were origionally taken from. Thankfully the case worker who had my case was fired for severe neglect. My children are now traumatized and broken. I could do nothing to stop the abuse… I was powerless… sometimes the system has all the control and the parents have to sit back and watch.
For this family I cant help but hang my head and cry, 40% of her little body is burned and she is now scarred for life. What a mess this monster has made for this poor little girl. The mother is no better for staying with a monster like this. She deserves to be put down like an animal just like him. Some people have bad blood running in their veins, like this man…and some women are so weak they refuse to stand up and stop the abuse…if you cant protect your children from your own husband/boyfriend, you have no business having those children. Period. There is absolutely no excuse for this family sitting back and letting this go this far. If the system WAS notified and did nothing, then someone should have taken it upon themselves to STOP THE ABUSE. Come on people…there is NO WAY AROUND IT. An adult can stand up for a child, and SHOULD. This poor little girl will be broken for the rest of her life, at the hands of her father…and the sad thing is, she cant reach out TO ANYONE. Because no one was there to reach back and grab her hand and pull her through the cracks in the first place…so now where does this child turn? Hopefully they will find her a loving family, one who can pick up the peices like Kathy can….if not, we have not done our jobs. Its our duty as a community to reach out, when things like this happen and help.
I only wish that a life sentence or even death could be an eqaul price tag for what has been done to this little girl, at her own expense. Yet it will never measure up…because there is no punishment that our judicial system offers that could break him the way he broke her…Brings tears to my eyes with every new victim we find. Its time to change our ways…an eye for an eye….he should be hurt the way he hurt her…pay with his flesh. In my opinion thats in the very least what he deserves. Everyday it becomes more hopeless…everyday another child becomes a victim and the offender gets a free ride on our dime. Its bullsh*t. Kill the bastard…nice and slow, let him rot from the inside out. Then the his debt to society might be even. But I DOUBT IT.
