Lawyer mom leaves kid in car at Wally World

Pregnant Long Island mother leaves tot idling in car as she shops at Walmart:

32-year-old Alona Sulman of Long Island is not only a lawyer but she’s also nine months pregnant. So you would think that she would know better than to allegedly leave her 2-year-old daughter in the car for 30 minutes while she was in WalMart.

A passerby dialed 911, and cops were waiting when she returned toting several bags of merchandise.

I wonder if the bargains were worth the year in jail that she’s facing.

Thanks to Marcy for the tip.

i agree…jail time is’nt necessary. our jails are overcrowded as it is. she’s a lawyer, she can defend herself in court…and then after completing the parenting classes.etc. that were suggested before, let her do some community service….something that benits kids.

If she was stupid enough to leave the kid in the car she’d be dumb enough to leave her in the bath unsupervised, by boiling water etc. but I do agree about not going to jail. I think she needs parenting classes. And holy shit, my mom wouldn’t leave me in the car when I was ten….

This was a really bad decision on her part. But, I’m sure it’s not one she’ll repeat. I don’t think the best thing for this child (sans any other signs of abuse) is for the mother to go to jail. Seriously… we have WAY worse abuse on here for which the parent gets little to no jail time. I think she should get fined, have to take a parenting class, sit and look at photos of children who have been left alone in cars and suffered death due to temperature extremes, view pictures of children who have been found dead after being abducted… But, risk breaking up her family by sending her to jail (especially if the child is well cared for except for this incident) seems extreme.

Please do NOT think I’m condoning what she did. It’s obvious that she made a bad decision by leaving a 2 y/o in a car for an hour while she shopped. However, the child is safe. There’s nothing in the article to indicate that the little girl has ever been abused. I don’t think jail is the way to go for this case.

April, I’d love to be able to explain it but all I can come up with is that they are selfish. It could be a lack of common sense, for there are many dumb people out there, but this woman HAD to have known what she did was wrong but by telling the cop she was a lawyer proves she’s selfish, she’s got a big ego and cares first for herself, others second. If she truly valued her child and her safety, she would have taken her into the store with her.

shit, if I was a cop and someone broke a rule, and then said they were a lawyer, they’d be in even more trouble. same goes for if I was a judge. I think breaking a law you know (or should know) is worse than breaking a law from ignorance of the law. You should be punished more for willful breaking of the law.

Okay – First of all…. what in the heck is that second comment?? Where do those come from and why. It’s freaking me out. Someone hold me…… *sticks thumb in mouth*

Seriously – Where do these fucking women come from?? I wouldn’t leave my 9 year old in the damn car alone, and he can pretty much fend for himself if it gets hot or cold!! That’s not my reason for NOT doing it! There are some pretty sick fucks wandering around that would LOVE to come across a kiddie alone in a car. One of my biggest fears in life is having my child die…. Bigger that that fear is the one of having someone taking him from me and doing unthinkable things to him beofre killing him. I can’t be the only woman that feels this way. So please explain to me why these stupid ass women keep leaving kids in the car?!?!?! They die! They get stolen!! They get stolen then killed!!! Stupid, stupid c*nt!!!

Talk about someone who should have known better. If she thinks toting the 2-year-old around now is inconvenient wait until the new baby arrives. If you can’t cope with one child you have no business having another. I hope they make an example of her and she goes to prison for the full year.

Only time my son stays in the car is when my husband is also staying in the car, and if the temp is uncomfortable, little one goes in regardless (plus he kicks up a fuss 90%, so goes in with me anyhow). I do agree if you can’t handle one, you shouldn’t be having a second one, or a third or whatever, even if you have the money, kids need more than money thrown at them.
I’m already making plans on how to handle things when number two arrives, and I still have at least a month and a half, unless he decides to pull an entrance like his brother did, but that’s why I have an infant carrier, and invested the time on teaching my son how to behave heading into the store (he turns around and reaches for my hand as a matter of course, and stays near the car while I close the door).
