Wash. Breeders starve infant so she wouldn’t be fat

Police: Bellevue couple starved infant to keep her from getting ‘fat’:

21-year-old Brittainy Labberton and her husband 24-year-old Sam Labberton have been charged with starving their infant daughter.

2-months after the girl was born she was hospitalized for what’s known as failure to thrive. The couple allegedly claimed that the baby was fussy and often spit up the food. However the baby ate fine while in the hospital.

After that the baby was placed in a foster home where the baby gained weight. When Mrs. Labberton found out the baby had gained weight she said “Oh my God, she’s fat,” and, “I have a fat baby.” It seems that her husband has a weight problem and wanted her daughter to be under the 50th percentile in weight. It also turns out that Labberton was allegedly mixing in laxative with the baby’s food. Nothing like giving your daughter an eating disorder before she’s even old enough to have one.

Labberton supposedly has post partum depression and stopped taking her meds. If that’s the case it’s lucky that she only starved the baby and not something more drastic which according to the article she had been thinking of.

Hubby doesn’t get off easy in this post either as he claims he works the graveyard shift and ‘couldn’t help his wife.’ Selfish bastard. Plus he doesn’t think his wife did anything wrong.

Samuel Labberton even added “he would not change anything if he could go back as he does not believe he and Brittany did anything wrong,” the documents said.

Apparently he went to the Rusty Yates school of Husbandry.

After their first child was taken away because she was thinking of harming the child I wonder if he talked her into having another one?

Thanks to Layla for the tip.

Looks to me like Samuel had some serious issues when it came from pushing himself away from the trough.

I live in Bellevue and this doesn’t exactly shock me. I think it’s a crime to be larger than a size two here. It’s a very affluent town, and while I won’t say that no one here uses meth, it’s not very prevalent. Eating disorders run rampant though.

  • Huh.. Says:

It is funny, I know these people, or at least the husband. I find it irksome that you people bash them. Albeit I haven’t spoken to ‘Zam’ in years, I know he isn’t like this. I don’t know about the mom however. I know for a fact he isn’t a Meth-head. I think the slanderous remarks are a bit over board and this article, and the whole situation is taken fully out of context. We’ll see what the results are though, right?

    • DodiaFae Says:

What I find funny is how some troll, who supposedly knows “Zam” but hasn’t spoken with him in years, could possibly know for certain that he’s not a meth-head or that he wouldn’t starve his baby (or allow the baby’s mother to starve her) or would claim to know in what context any parent could possibly wish to starve their little baby that shouldn’t land them in jail and on this blog.

I’d say “WTF is wrong with you”, but I strongly suspect that you’re only here for the attention and possibly a “virtual spanking”. I’m not inclined to oblige you on the latter (or the former beyond this post), but I’m sure if you stick around, one of the other lovely ladies here will be more than happy to give you what you’re looking for.

      • April Says:

We know what’s wrong with him / her – Huh us a LOSER!!! Who else would defend this piece of dog shit?

BTW – I’m just the lovely lady to give this e-tard the virtual bitch slapping they are looking for.

yup, biting hurts, thats what made me stop too, when he was not hungry anymore, he would bite me to let me know lol, he hated baby food too, he much prefers something solid to munch on good on you for keeping on going with it! its such a good bonding thing isnt it? i loved it

    • DodiaFae Says:

Yeah, I think that his dislike of baby food was due to the texture (and it’s somewhat less flavorful than real cooked veggies and fruits). But he did great with bite-sized pieces of things that were easily “chewed” (or mashed). He also cut teeth much later than usual, and our theory is that it’s because he wasn’t eating solids at all until much later. We were told that the later a baby cuts teeth the healthier their teeth tend to be, so we didn’t worry about that at all.

I loved the bonding, too, and it was so calming for both of us. I didn’t have the heart to ween him when everyone started hounding me about it.

bloody hell, gabriel was 10 pound 4 born! thats insane, he is 10 months now and weighs nearly 30, he is a little chubber, but quite tall too, he was breastfed till 2 weeks ago, he was just big, some babies are… just big! what a psycho!

    • Jenn from NM Says:

I also breastfed my oldest boy until 10 months, but that was because he started biting me.

      • DodiaFae Says:

My oldest was lucky… he bit me *once*, and I told him I wouldn’t breast feed him anymore if he did that again. He never did, and he was a bed-time nurser until a little more than two months before his baby brother was born (he was a little over 2 years old at that time, and decided on his own that it was time to stop.) He actually wanted *nothing* to do with solid food until he was a year old… skipped right over baby food nearly all together.

I swear my new little one has phantom teeth… it feels like he’s sinking them in sometimes (and he is latched properly). But I’m determined to breast feed him until he’s at least 1 year old.

    Anorexia-by-proxy. That’s a new one.

  • Kathy Says:

This woman is nuts. My nephew had jowls when he was a baby. He looked like the Michelin Tire man because of all of his rolls. People used to joke that it took him longer to sit up because his butt was too big and too round like a Weeble. He’s now a tall, lean healthy 6 y/o. Oh, my sis breastfed him.

I’m glad that baby is out of the house. They already lost one child, what made them think they could handle a second??? Someone needs to tell her she could lose about a pound if she has her uterus removed.

    • DodiaFae Says:

Supposedly, eating disorders can wreak havock on your ability to conceive… too bad that doesn’t seem to be the case with this worthless piece of trash.

  • Cherish Says:

My baby is tiny tiny.. three months, ten pounds… I would love it if she would gain some weight…

    • Anecephalitic Genius Says:

Mine is small too. She will be one year old this coming Wednesday and she’s 18 pounds. She’s over 30″ so she isn’t excessively short or anything. She eats a lot, but she’s also never still unless she’s sleeping. Even then she rolls around, ends up looking like she set off crawling and passed out, etc. I’ve started adding cream and olive oil oil to her food and trying to give her an extra bottle but she won’t eat more than she wants. Breastfeed her mostly until around 7 months.

      • DodiaFae Says:

Not all “thin” babies are being starved… I have a niece and nephew who take after my brother, who was called “botomless pit” as a child, because he could eat and eat and not gain an ounce (except for height, but not around). The thing is that doctors can tell if the child is being starved or if it’s just their genes dictating their body-type.

If she’s on solids now, try bananas and avocados… both have a high fat content. And if you mix them in the blender with a bit of milk and brown sugar (or honey, if she’s older than a year) and a splash of vanilla, it makes an awesome milkshake. My son loves them.

      • Jenn from NM Says:

My older boy was 19 pounds at 1 year old, and he’s now a little bit over 30 pounds at three years old (but he’s probably about 38″ now, so he’s a little bit tall and a little bit slender).

And my baby is home, and I think part of his problem was he would get tired of sucking before he got enough milk in his system, so I will be doing what I did with brother, pumping and giving it to him in a bottle. The older one grew like a little weed and still got the good stuff. He likes nursing, but when I get almost as much out after he nurses as I was getting pumping while he was in the hospital, he needs to get the goods in an easier to eat format. Plus, now everyone that wants to feed baby can do so, which is good, because daddy loves to hold him (and I finally posted pics on my Facebook, I can post the link here if anyone wants to see him (and brother, I can post a link to that pic as well).

        • DodiaFae Says:

I hope you don’t think I’m being a fearmonger, but please don’t post pictures of your babies online (unless you’ve set your account to “private” and only friend people you know and trust). Pedophiles will download your pictures for their own sick purposes if they see them, and they do scour the internet, especially open facebook profiles and youtube, for pictures that they like. The pictures don’t even have to be “baby’s first bath” pictures or anything like that. They can be fully-clothed. These sickos are experts at fantasizing whatever they want to imagine.

I’m so glad your baby is home, and that you pay enough attention to understand how best to get him his nutrition. :) There are too many mothers out there that just don’t pay enough attention to their child’s needs to figure stuff like that out.

        • Oceanic Says:

While I can’t say that I’m glad that there are other moms out there whose children are very active and don’t put on a lot of weight, I’m relieved that I’m not alone. My daughter’s dad is tall and thin, even though he eats like a starved horse. Per her doctor and her nutritionist, it looks like she’s inherited his build and metabolism.

  • Trench Reynolds Says:

I’m going to say eating disorder.

  • Kathy Thomas Says:

Sara, April, meth was my first impression, I vote for that….hope they found/find some evidence of it to add onto the other charges, and with meth, no appetite, so why should the child be hungry? Because she child is growing perhaps??????

  • Jenn from NM Says:

I notice the article said she was induced at 38 weeks because of poor in utero weight gain, I wonder if mom was starving herself so she wouldn’t have a fat baby. I mean, come on, I gained 11 pounds, but actually lost 2 pounds the last two weeks I was pregant with my newborn, for a total gain of 9 pounds for the whole pregnancy, and he was 7 pounds and 9.4 ounces when he was born (but then I did start out overweight to begin with). That little girl weighed less than my older son did, and he was five weeks early, shoot she weighed less than I did when I was born, and I was 4-5 weeks early. Now my oldest son has never been even chubby, but that’s because he was the genes to be tall and slender, but he does run just about 50th %ile for height and just under 50th %ile for weight (up from 22nd and 5th at birth), and he is a sturdy little three year old (but it was hard buying clothes for him, because he was always a size behind on pants, when he wore 3T in shirts, I had to get him 24 month or 2T in pants or they would fall off him, he’s just now got to where I can get the same size in tops and bottoms for him without him having his pants on the floor).
Of course in that picture, momma doesn’t look like the sharpest tack in the box. And some people use their problems as a crutch so they don’t have to put forth any effort, and some people see it as a hurdle to overcome, and we can all guess where this girl fell. Yes, i feel sympathy for her having PPD, but have no pity for how she chose to deal with it. If the meds make you lethargic, don’t stop taking them, talk with your doc and get them to adjust the dosage, no medication is going to work correctly right off the bat, especially when you are dealing with correcting an imbalance, you have to fine tune it to compnesate for the individual’s response to the medication.

She looks like a meth head too. WTF is going on lately???

    …………..

Never mind. This is a normal thing these days. Why am I shocked?

  • sara Says:

They have 2 kids, the older one when they took her ate the food they gave her so fast she was choking.

  • Morrigan Says:

i dont live but 30 minutes down the freeway from this inbred assholes…anyone wanna take a drive, hold her down and force feed her laxitives??? i have 5 kids…every single one of them had colic and cried constantly. i am bi polar and had severe depression after the birth of each of my kids. the first two husbands, and i use that term veeeerrrryyyyy loosely, did nothing to help and yet i managed to get through it without harming any of them. i lucked with the last one, her dad was sent straight from heaven and is the greatest dad ever. he was an enormous help when she was a baby. all of my kids were in the 90th percentile from birth to 5, then they leaned out, got taller, and lost most of the baby “fat”. babies are supposed to be little chubsters, its normal and necessary for good health.

    • sara Says:

Is there a large meth problem in that area by any chance? I seen video of the mom and she looked strung out.

  • Jenn from NM Says:

Wow, freaking idiots. Let’s sacrifice the baby’s mental potential, just so she can not be “fat”. How about feeding her, and then making sure she grows up learning how to eat right and get a proper amount of exercise? but I guess that’s too hard, not to mention, food costs money. I mean, jeez, if you want the baby to not be “fat”, breastfeed them, it’s hard to be overwieght when you’re using every bit of a food designed to be optimal for porper growth and development, and you don’t have to wprry about feeding too much of it, since demand directly determines supply, but I guess that would have cramped her style.

    • DodiaFae Says:

The “mother” was apparently five kinds of crazy, she was on meds. So unfortunately she couldn’t have breastfed (except for when she decided to stop taking the meds.) However, it’s really hard to make an infant “overweight” in any case. I mean, unless you’re putting doughnuts in a blending with their formula…
