See that smug looking bastard with the hideous flavor saver?  That’s 24-year-old Cody Geddings and he is a douche bag asshole.  Cody is accused of murdering his girlfriend’s 16-month-old daughter, Addison.

When Addison was transported to the hospital, her vital signs were stable.  It was later apparent that she was suffering from hemorrhaging in her tiny little brain.

The girl’s mother, 19-year-old Jaime Higgons, took Addison to the hospital claiming the she fell out of her crib.  But you know those pesky cops and hospital workers – They just weren’t buying it.  It seems that the severity of Addison’s injuries were inconsistent with those of a child that would have simply fallen from a crib.  Jaime told the detectives that the injury occurred while Geddings was babysitting.  I know…. Enough said, right?  Well, true to douche bag form, Geddings had plenty of excuses as to how little Addison received the shattered skull and spinal injuries.  First he claimed that she has a seizure in her playpen.  That’s a new one.  His second excuse was that she had been playing near a wobbly chair in the backyard of his home, and that a full-sized acetylene gas cylinder had fallen on her.  You got to give it to him for his unique choice of excuses.  Usually the bathtub is the villain. 

Guess what??  The reason Geddings is so good at making up excuses for battered babies is because he’s had a little practice.  Geddings had previously been arrested (and was supposed to be sentenced in May) in connection with the abuse and neglect of his own son when he was only 6-weeks-old.  According to a police report from the time of his arrest in July 2009, police responded to a call for a child who fell out of his father’s hands and landed facedown on the floor.  Geddings told police that he had just finished bathing his son and had taken him to his bedroom get him dressed when that the slippery little devil just fell from his grasp as he held him with one hand and reached for a diaper with the other.  Well, with cat-like reflexes he was able to catch the tot as he was falling, but he was only able to reach the child’s foot causing him to rotate and land facedown on the floor.   I guess he’s not so cat-like after all.  Once again, Geddings’ explanation was inconsistent with the boy’s injuries.  Medical personnel believed that the baby had serious injuries and reported them to police causing an investigation into possible child abuse.  Geddings later admitted to police that he had been arguing with his wife while holding the baby in his lap.  He said that he may have squeezed the little boy’s legs and arms hard enough to leave bruises.

Now, I think we will all agree that Cody Geddings isn’t exactly an ideal candidate for a boyfriend and certainly not a babysitter.  Aside from the previous child abuse charges, he has other arrests on his record.  In 2003 he was accused of stealing a car and setting it on fire.  He was sentenced to probation, but it was later revoked.  In 2005 he was accused of stealing tires and rims.  He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a maximum of three years in jail.

As if his arrest record wasn’t enough to keep Jaime from leaving her precious daughter with this asshole, her ex (the baby’s father) warned her about Geddings saying that he didn’t trust him.  I can only guess that he wasn’t the only one that warned her – but that just my speculation.  When will single mothers stop and take the time to investigate the men they plan on trusting their children with?  Good sex does not make a man trustworthy enough to leave your child alone with.  I know she was a young mother, but that doesn’t make her totally inept!  I’m trying not to want to blame her, because I know she has paid the ultimate price for this act of dumb-assery, but she could have made better choices and that precious little angel wouldn’t have suffered.
