Mother of 3 arrested after newborn found in the backyard

Pearl River woman faces charges after newborn baby found abandoned

Woman loses kids to state after charges of abandoning newborn

On January 16th at approximately 7 am a 13-year-old boy called 911 to report he and his 15-year-old sister had found a crying newborn in their backyard.  The newborn was wrapped in a towel and blanket and laying on the ground.  Their father wrapped the baby in more blankets to keep it warm until EMS could arrive.  What these teenagers didn’t know at the time was that newborn they had rescued was their little brother and had been left outside, by their mother Kimberly Lee (35).

When EMS arrived they found the baby boy breathing with the umbilical cord still attached.  The baby was taken Northshore Regional Medical Center then flown to Ochsner Medical Center, where he was last listed stable condition.  Shew…good news!

While questioning the family police learned Lee had been pregnant, but her husband was not aware she had given birth.  He said she had just left for work that morning.  Lee was contacted advised to go to the hospital and was interviewed there.

Lee admitted to police she had given birth that morning and put the baby outside her home.  She said she hid the pregnancy from her family by wearing over sized clothing.  I am a little confused about this; her husband knew she was pregnant according to him.  Did she hide the pregnancy from their three children and other family or did she not know her husband knew?

Anyhow, Lee was arrested and charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and child desertion.  The investigation is on going to determine if anyone else will be criminally charged.

The Lee’s three children ranging in age from 8-years-old to 15-years-old have been placed in state custody.

I am at a total loss here. How can a woman who has three children already, give birth and toss the baby out into the backyard.  I guess I should be grateful my mind can’t register how a person is capable of this sort of thing, but I would love to understand.

Thanks to bprbear for the tip.

The kids didn’t know she was pregnant but the husband did. Did she know the husband knew? He found out she was carrying and didn’t ask her about it? I wonder if it wasn’t his baby.

This is a sad story with a happy ending. That Mr. Keller is someone you’d want to be your grandfather. That baby is lucky he found her. The mother is a lost soul, herself. She was later found living in an abandoned house. We ask that these people take responsibility ……..they don’t know how. Therefore the problem is worse than we think. How would she know about “safe haven” provisions?  I worked in human services and had to get out. It was making me sick. I’d like to know how this woman was impregnated. Was she raped? Who knows. Who was the irresponsible ejaculator? He was obviously not a modern enlightened man. We must understand that there are adults who know nothing about consequence, know nothing about long term gratification….just the short. And these people live in our neighborhoods.
The happy ending is that one lady had a baby shower for Baby Noel.
I can only imagine what it is like to work at that children’s hospital. Ugh!

    • Deena

This is a totally different story than the one you linked to.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OXQMVBO6U7LKZTBUJRIC6VGDXY Eris

To  me the photo says “exhausted” “hopeless” “worn-out.” My guess would be that she not only works full time, but is totally responsible for the children and the home. I’m guessing she gave birth unexpectedly and became dissociated – in denial – because she just couldn’t cope. Have a heart, peeps.

    • KatyKat

She’s a meth head. Just look at the sunken cheeks and eyes. Oh, and the potholes on her face. Whoever you are, you’re either out of touch with the world or maybe just trolling. There is NO excuse for leaving a baby outside to die. If you don’t want to keep him/her, drop that precious baby off at a hospital, fire station or call 911 and have the paramedics pick the baby up! Get a clue, seriously.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rochell-Arnold/100000587657456 Rochell Arnold

The photo says I’m a jackass…..YOU have a heart. Leaving a new born child freeze to death. I work full time, I am totally responsible for my children, teo of which are special needs. Now, in the event that my husband and I were blessed with another child you bet your ass I would not leave the baby outside so FUCK OFF.

  • MickeyMouse

    some how* sorry

    • Madison

sorry mickey didnt mean to jump down your throat. sorry about that. friends??

      • MickeyMouse

        It’s cool! No problems!

  • MickeyMouse

“Oh no! I fell asleep and some the baby that no one knew about got to the back yard all by himself!”?????

  • Veronica

HERE’S what I don’t understand: if you are a child and find a baby in your backyard, why do you call 911?  Do you not go to see your mom with said baby?  At which point said mom says, ‘Oh, lord!  I fell asleep after I gave birth, is the baby okay?’  And then she grabs it and nurses it and the kids are like, :O, but still it doesn’t become a police incident or a CPS issue.  Somewhere in this thread, it was said that she ‘tried to kill’ the baby and I just don’t see that.  Lots of what this woman’s being accused of is just not a crime, nor does it make you a bad parent: ugliness, premature aging, etc.  I know I’ve been reading BB for a few years now and it just must have skewed my perception but compared to some of the atrocities that I’ve read here, I don’t think that having baby in backyard while ugly and leaving it there for a few hours until your kids found it is the crime of the century.  Now, all this said, maybe it says something about her that her kids called 911 instead of talking to her about it…  I don’t know, this whole thing seems like a cluterfuck but the fallout seems, I don’t know, excessive?

    • Deena

Veronica, they didn’t take the baby to the mother because after she put the baby in the backyard she shuffled on off to work like it was not big deal. They DID take the baby to their father, who wrapped the baby up and cared for him until EMS arrived. While I appreciate your opinion and you are definitely entitled to it, I hardly think this is a case of “oops I fell asleep, after giving birth.” She hid the pregnancy or at least believed she did, she had the baby never mentioned the birth to…oh I don’t know… his FATHER, put the baby in the backyard, got dressed and headed off to work. Now really ask yourself does that sound like an oops really.

Is removing the children from dad excessive?? Absolutely, he clearly had nothing to do with her decisions.

This may not be the worst of the worst we have had here, but only because the teenagers found the baby, what if they hadn’t? We’d be reading a whole different story and you’d have a whole different opinion. I’m guessing!

    • CynicalMe

She gave birth, put the baby in the yard, cleaned up and went to work.  How is that not neglect, endangerment, and abandonment??

A newborn’s body has problems maintaining a healthy temperature even in a hospital.  They also need to eat every couple of hours, no one knew he existed but her and she went to work!

What do you think would have happened to him if the kids hadn’t found him?

Your right this isn’t the worst case of child abuse on BB.  Every child’s story is different and they all deserve to be heard, so I try not to compare them.  Besides, there are so many we read/write about that don’t make it, it’s nice to read about one that does from time to time…

    • Your_Pal_Nancy

“oh lord I fell asleep after giving birth, is the baby ok?”? Really? Come on, nobody, especially a parent 3 times over, gives birth, put the baby in the backyard and goes to work on accident! Yeah, her ugliness has nothing to do with her horrible actions, but it doesn’t make her less ugly, its a comment not an accusation. I agree this isn’t as bad as selling the baby to a rapist for meth, but it is still complete abandonment. You can’t tell me an experienced mother, or really anyone, was expecting the baby to be alive after a full work day of being outside, naked and hungry, and if she did expect it to be alive what kind of asshole leave their newborn outside, at all, let alone for a day at the office! Sorry if this seems aggressive towards you, I’m really just angry with the “mother” and don’t think there’s an excuse for her.

      • http://www.facebook.com/pandora114 Monique Boulanger

Falling asleep after giving birth?  I never did.  I had that post birth adrenalin rush that kept me up for hours after (paid for it though..).  Granted I had both my kids in under 90mins a pop (from first contraction till the delivery of the placenta..sorry for the gross word)  So I had that “runners high”  was on top of the world, so “falling asleep after having the baby” doesn’t really cut it with me at least, since from what I heard, after having a natural birth, it’s totally normal to be wired for sound.  YMMV though.

  • Muggle

Who the fuck would get that pregnant FOUR TIMES?!

    • Allizer

Maybe she had a bag over her head.

  • SueCitySue

this may be a “duh sue” moment for me but.. all of my posts say unregistered.. but I thought I did register… anyone wanna help a sister out? my blonde is showing, even tho i’m a redhead! >snicker<

    • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

I’m loving the ever loving fuck out of you!

  • Deb

Whew! I am glad we all agreed to disagree and hugged and made up.
Welcome Micky- if you have lurked on this site you will understand that some of the folks here tend to get a little emotional. Not that is a bad thing, but when a person sees the photos of these sweet children and reads about what the survivors had been put through and then the sensless deaths of way to many babies by the ones who are suppose to protect and love them, there comes a bit of a breaking point. I don’t know about anyone else here…but I have been known to pull a knee-jerk reaction to something I read, took personally, posted and all heck breaks out because we take each child as our own and are wanting to either get justice for or save each baby. So for me, I tend to lash out at the ones who understand what I am feeling- my family here at BB. Now if it is a troll……. that is a whole different kettle of fish (i can’t believe I just wrote that. Lord I miss Texas) I’ll have to ask Trench or April when hunting season opens on trolls and what the limit maybe.
Welcome back Angel… I’m a fairly newish poster but a luker for over a year. From the great reaction you got I cant wait to read what you write!!!! Hugs to all!!!!

    • MickeyMouse

It’s all cool! No hurt emotions!! I got my big girl panties on (; I having knee jerk reactions. My knee jerk reaction caused a useless debate. All while we were forgetting that the main reason for posting comments is to discuss what that poor excuse of a birth canal did to her baby. Still sorry for starting. I should learn not to take things so personal.

      • Deb

I will admit there are times it is difficult NOT to take somethings personal. I try to stop and take a minute to breath and reflect before I post just to make sure it is not a knee-jerk reaction……now remember I said I TRY, sometimes it just don’t work  :-)
Big girl panties are great especially when they are silk and lace…oops did I just say that out loud?? hum…my bad. But what is really fun (IMO) is getting on trolls nerves by posting facts while dancing in the rain with big girl panties and hooker shoes!!! Oh and popcorn!! Dang I just realized how warped my poor mind is…..and the funny thing is I fit in here!!! I think……  😉

Muggle- I think she is trying for the clown car….

  • Angel

Yeah, birth control is actually cheaper than abortion…you can get it free at any clinic! Plus, no down time from medical procedure, so no lost work, no lost wages.

On another note…I had a b**** of a time logging on today.  Have you missed me much, April? Trench? Deena? jj? Cynical me? Anyone? I sure have missed the HELL out of y’all! No, jj, that was not a curse word – hell is a place…:-)

Well thank you April! I like you, too!
On a side note… Bet this hag will use the “my husband is abusive” excuse. Something just tells me she will.

    • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

Ooooooh. I never thought of that angle. Could be. Like the one whore that shot her baby in the crib. What was that bitches name. Damn. I usually remember them all.

  • Nell

Very sad, sad story…smells of mental illness or extreme guilt.  And btw…as a pro-choicer, I can’t stand it when a man preaches pro-life.  Our society today has transformed (sadly) into one where single-mother-ness is way too common, and many mothers are abandoned to care for their kids on their own.  Not all, I’m know, but many. And most of these sad cases are cases involving single mothers.  Just is so ironic to see men arguing abortionwhenthey themselves will never have to go through it, or even ponder that choice. But all in all, a woman who can carry a child for 9 months and abandon that child has no heart, and does not deserve the esteemed title of Mom.

  • MickeyMouse

Ok I am sincerely done. My first comment was not intended to start a debate. It was simply a response to that women who posted earlier. I apologize for letting it sprial any further. I sincerely respect this page. And what this poor baby had to go through is terrible! Something is wrong with this women. She doesn’t deserve to be a mother.

    • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

I respected your opinion. I just didn’t like the way it came across. Kinda preachy and all.

      • MickeyMouse

I apologize for it coming across that way. I felt attacked while you felt preached at. I was only upset with the first comment because she was so rude and juvenile in it. I felt as if she blamed pro life people for this witches screw up. Big girl panties on… They’ve been on. I’m not stoping because you think I can’t handle a debate that I never wanted. I’m stoping because Trench respectfully asked me to. You are not being respectful by telling me to “put my big girl panties on” or stop debating. Now, I am done and you can comment all you want towards me.

        • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

I had my bitch hat on yesterday, but I like you. I fully appreciate your opinion and the fact that you CAN debate without being a complete asshole. I hope you know that.

  • MickeyMouse

And I’m done. Guess us pro life people should keep our mouths shut. *smh*

    • Deena

I think this is getting blown way out of proportion. This post is not about abortion and/or whether we are pro-life or pro-choice (I’m pro-choice, BTW). This post is about a woman who tossed a newborn baby, HER SON, out into the yard, then went on with morning like it was no big deal.
We all have a different opinion, agree to disagree. What’s important is that we all agree that what this woman did is heinous and unforgivable, regardless of her circumstances. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

With all due respect the abortion debate is kind of off topic but feel free to discuss it in the open thread if you’d like. And I am pro-life so I am not singling you or anyone else out.

      —– Original message —–

    • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

No one said that. You attacked another regular for her comment. If you can’t have a heated debate, then maybe you should be done. No one is bashing you for your beliefs. Yank up your big girl panties or stop posting.

  • MickeyMouse

    are not*

  • MickeyMouse

Pregnant by affair? Doesn’t warrant abortion to me. Seems pretty selfish to me. And arent you all trying to convience me that abortion is ok? Maybe, you guys should stop trying as well because you ate not going to convience me other wise! And who said I was honestly trying to get you guys to believe what I do… I wasn’t the one who brought this topic up! She said something I found offensive and I felt the need to say something back. She opened up the topic!

  • MickeyMouse

Ugh… Guess I’m not allowed to my opinion. Everyone asked so I answered! Goood grief, why is that when I try to express my opinions I get “in trouble” for it. No one is jumping at the girl who offended me yet I guess I offended everyone by stating my beliefs! It’s really sad that I can’t freely express my prolife beliefs without being ridiculed. And if you have sex during marriage and get pregnant that baby is your responsibility… Don’t even try to preach to me about what’s right and wrong Biblically. I know the Bible but I never said I was Christian. Also, did I say married people should not have sex? Pretty sure I didn’t. And I would never tell you in a polite way to go have sex with yourself… That’s immature and rude! Im not stupid, I know what you are trying to say… *insert eye roll* But hey… What do I know? I’m pro life. I must be heartless!

  • Danielle

OMG I can’t take another pro-life versus pro-choice debate. No one is ever going to convince another to change their beliefs on this topic, so best to just drop it.

I am pro-choice – with stipulations. Such as, very early term abortions for whatever reason the woman has. Late-term abortions are flat out awful and horrible to think of.

Do me a favor though, don’t try to convince me to be pro-life or talk about murdering babies… I know it all. Not changing my take on this.

Let’s get back to the fact that the breeder in this story attempted to kill her newborn by dumping the poor little thing in the backyard.

Maybe she was pregnant as a result of an affair?

    • http://www.facebook.com/pandora114 Monique Boulanger

I agree Danielle.  Smacks of affair.  hiding the pregnancy and all.  woman is a stupid dumb cow.

And Mickey,  you’re not supposed to abstain in Marriage, except for a SHORT, MUTUALLY AGREED upon time for Prayer and Fasting (Surgery recovery and post partum fall under these btw)  This woman already had THREE kids.  She was married.  (hopefully daddy dearest divorces her ass for this..I know if I were him I would)
Telling single people to not fuck is one thing, telling a married couple, who, according to most,  is really SUPPOSED to have regular sex, ( Judaism, Islam, Christianity, all major religions actually support the whole no abstinence in marriage)  to NOT have sex, is kinda stupid.  I’m sorry, tell me not to have sex with my husband and I’ll tell you in a really not nice way to go have sex with yourself.  I think most married couples would tell you the same thing.

    • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

The debate is as useles as the circumsicion debate.

Fuck. Did I open another can of worms?

  • MickeyMouse

Why do automatically think I am Christian anyway? So… People who are pro-life are Christians? Way to stereotype!

  • MickeyMouse

To think that abortion would have been better because of the “what ifs” is like saying abortion would have been better for all these innocent children. Abortion is a sure way of ending a babies life… and that is just tragic to me. And please don’t think that I am in way saying with this evil thing did to her baby is ok, because it certainly is not! I also want to say that I respect this page and before this article have never posted on this page. I just felt compelled to this time.

    • Angel

Because if the guy is too stupid to notice that his wife just gave birth (re: lost about 20 pounds), then he’s sure as snot too stupid to be trusted with the result of that birthing process – or any other child, for that matter.

  • Bill Johnson

Judging by the picture, she is clearly inbred/retarded.  These people need to be sterilized before puberty.

  • Britt

She looks like a total meth-head. She could have dropped the child off at a safe-haven if she didnt want the child. Instead, place the baby outside of the home and go on about your life like nothing happened? Yea, someone has problems.

  • SueCitySue

  • http://www.facebook.com/pandora114 Monique Boulanger

err….how about “Oh crap we can’t afford any more kids, and I’m pregnant again, off to the clinic I go,  then make plans for a tubal”  Fuck no, that would be BAAAAAAAD.  (Good job anti-choicers)

    • Brittany

No, she carried the baby to term, so why not do what any sane human being would do and place it for adoption or take it to a safe haven.

    • MickeyMouse

Really? You sound pretty juvenile! That baby still has a chance to live a completely happy life, despite what the “mother” did and all you can say is: should have aborted the baby! What life would that baby have if she aborted it? That’s right… None! Abortion = Legal murder. Oh wait… I must be a bad person for caring about about innocent babies who are murdered all because the “parent” don’t want to take care of them *insert eye roll*.

      • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

Take your bullshit out of here. She’s entitled to her opinion. This is not a forum to debate pro-life or pro-choice issues. What this cunt did was FAR worse than abortion and you fucking know it.

        • MickeyMouse

In my eyes they’re the same. And she is the one who brought up the abortion topic, not me. By her stating, “Good job Anti-Choicers” I feel that she places blame on those who are pro life. I also feel it was a personal attack on me. If she is able to state her believes, in such a rude way, I too should be able to state mine. Abortion is not bull shit to me. It’s something I take serious. She opened the door to discussion and I simply responded. Have a nice day.

          • http://badbreeders.net/ Malevolent April

So, you think having an abortion is just as bad, if not worse than whatthistwat did? What if no one found the baby?

          • MickeyMouse

Yes I do believe that people who murder, or in this women’s case, attempt to murder, their children is just as bad as abortion. I understand the circumstances of abortion after rape, incest, or life threatening illness and feel compassion for those mothers as I am not sure what I would do in those circumstances. But those who abort babies because they simply do not want to take care of one is a tragedy and selfish in my eyes. I was only trying to state what I believe back to her because I felt it was personal. Maybe, I’m too sensitive on the subject, I dunno.
As for what if they never found the baby… The problem with that question is: they did find the baby. BUT if they didn’t find the baby at least he or she would have had a chance at living. …

          • http://www.facebook.com/pandora114 Monique Boulanger

ok,  If you’re so Christian, what do you think of 1Cor7?  You can’t cherry pick.  if God says not to deny one’s spouse sexual intercourse, then, babies are going to happen, and if one is not in a financial situation to have a FOURTH KID, what then?  What if they can’t AFFORD a sterilization treatment or birth control?  Maybe they’re JUST getting by?  Seriously.

          • CynicalMe

If a person can afford an abortion they can afford birth control…

          • http://www.facebook.com/pandora114 Monique Boulanger

True,  Sometimes birth control is 1: Ineffective and 2: there are mitigating circumstances as to NOT take it.

1: She is over 35, they try to get women off the pill and sterilized by then, because the pill has some serious side effects on women over 35.

2:  Latex allergies, I know I”m allergic to latex, dunno about her.

See, those are the reasons why *I* can’t use conventional birth control.  Dunno about her, I’m thinking she’s a dumbass.  But ME, I have legit reasons as to NOT use it. (Massive history of negative cardio vascular issues in my family so I had to quit the pill when I hit 30ish)  Allergic to latex, allergic to spermicide.  Husband went and got a vasectomy, thank goodness.

As to the “give it up for adoption” thing,  she has three other kids.  How do you think THEY would feel.  “Well mom just gave our baby sister/brother up, how easily would it be for her to give US up?”  (That’s what went through MY mind when I found out I had an adopted-out half sister)

Of course now,  the kids have it probably worse.  Stuck in foster care which has an even higher rate of abuse/neglect/sexual abuse than families of origin.  Of course sometimes one has to weigh the risks/benefits of that too…I think that they are probably only there until a full investigation is done, then they’ll HOPEFULLY go back to dad.

          • MickeyMouse

Exactly! And who said anything about bringing Christianity into this? Wanna know what the bible says…? Thou shall not murder. That God knew us even while we were in the womb. Certainly, bringing Christianity into this picture is not going to help defend abortion. I understand the Bible speaks of love… And I have love for the babies and love for the parents. I just believe that choosing abortion because they don’t want to take care of babies is selfish. Money should not be an issue. You can’t afford the baby…? Don’t spread your legs. The only 100% effective birth control is abstinence. Yes, it is in our nature to have sex, but it’s called self control. Pregnancy can be moniterd for free. I know this because I couldn’t afford pregnancy and seeked help. My pregnancy ended up being free. No I don’t live off the government but yes the government did help pay for my pregnancy. Legal abortion is never free. Like cynical said you can afford abortion, you can afford birth control. Abstinence is free!

Why is a 35 year old woman (married and mother to 3 already) trying to hide a pregnancy? And then, leaves it in her own backyard after giving birth? I’m so confused. She has to be missing some brain cells. At least baby is alive and doing well.
