Boozy Punishment for Kids Not a Good Idea

Police: Arizona father forces young teen sons to drink alcohol

Let Kristopher Harvey’s prematurely aged mug serve as a warning to what overindulging in booze can do to your looks. And let his idiotic crime educate you on how not to discipline your children. Surprise, Arizona resident, 32-year-old Kristopher Harvey thought he would teach his teen sons a lesson for getting into his booze and decided to go the old school route parents used to take when they caught their kid smoking cigarettes. You know the method, kid gets busted smoking so the parent makes the kid smoke a whole pack of Pall Malls until it makes the kid sick. Well, Harvey took it to a new level and even added in a dip in the swimming pool to his creative punishment.

It seems Harvey’s two sons, ages 13 and 14, got into his alcohol last week so this past Monday, while Harvey himself was nicely inebriated, he decided to make his kids pay for messing with his booze. According to reports, he forced both boys to drink three shots each of hard liquor and tossed them into the pool. His downfall was leaving his sons outside to suffer through potential alcohol poisoning because a neighbor heard their crying coming from the backyard and called the police. I have to applaud the neighbor here because so many times they sit idly by, but this one actually got involved and all they heard was crying. Bravo, good neighbor.

When officers arrived at the home, Harvey reportedly came outside so shitfaced he had a hard time standing and speaking. His two sons were found in the backyard, crying, vomiting and obviously drunk. Harvey was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail on two counts of child abuse. He admits he forced his sons to drink the alcohol as punishment, but says he didn’t throw them in the pool, that they jumped in on their own. While the kids could have drowned, being as sloshed as they were, it’s the booze part, not the pool that earned Kristopher Harvey his charges.

Of the incident, Harvey is quoted as saying, “Unfortunately it was one of the things I learned when I was a child, that this is how you teach your children to do things. I realize now that it was the biggest mistake of my life.” He added, “I’ve lost my job, I’ve lost my children, I’ve now got to come up with $10,000 for an attorney just to fight to keep from having to do 17 to life on two counts.” Harvey’s girlfriend, 49-year-old Karen Edwards, was issued a citation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Apparently, she’s one of those broads that will watch a guy do bad things to children and not bother to stop it. Some chicks just love bad guys and being dragged down with them. A thank you to SoloCare for bringing this rough looking 32-year-old nimrod to our attention and for our amusement.

So to everyone who was following the dad who forced his kids to drink, he had got 3 years probation. Yes 3 years probation, that’s it! Is that just a slap on the wrist or what!?!

I too wonder what they mean by ‘a shot’. I know what the actual bar definition is, but I also know what the definition was the few times I drank … Our definition was three to four times the definition of a bar’s. For most people I know, three shots would equal about two measuring cups worth. Being in my thirties and not much of a drinker, I feel it on less than 4 oz now. And I’m a fully grown adult … Those boys weren’t. And what was the alcohol percentage? A lot of alcohols are over 40% now.

Thankfully the boys are okay. Three mixed shots of unknown size with unknown percentage on three non drinkers could have led to a hospital stay … Or worse.

thank you an yes my boys are just fine

  • Benighted01

Three shots of mixed liquors for young teens unaccustomed to it could certainly be enough to make them gag… and I presume we only have Dad’s word for it that they were actual shots and not doubles or even more. I know in my drinking days “a shot” according to me would have been considerably more than your average bar measure.

Yeah, I knew a couple of people in high school who considered a ‘shot’ to be however much they could chug from a fifth before having to come up for air.  Come to think of it, most of those people are dead now – probably cirrhosis.

I found this post useful. You can check out my video on youtube

Hope Sheriff Joe makes him wear the pink undies….

  • The_hellcat

I’m confused. He made them drink THREE SHOTS and they were drunk and vomiting? While forcing them to drink even one drop is highly inappropriate, I can’t imagine that effect from just 3 shots.

    • Risskia

The_hellcat:  their bodies are quite small and lean – also not mature and capable of processing that sort of toxin.  Here’s a link to an alcohol consumption shot for a more clear description of effects per dose by size : http://www.brad21.org/bac_charts.html

Look at the effects for women and it would be MORE severe for children of this age, the younger , the worse.

I’m 20 years old, and sure I’m a 105-lb woman, but three shots was enough to get me drunk.  That’s the drunkest I’ve ever been, actually.  The kids in the story could be smaller than me, and if they’d only had alcohol once or twice before, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were sloshed.  Especially since age is a factor in alcohol tolerance.

It was 3 shots of a few different liquors…. I believe it was jim beam, vodka and one other. How I know this, is I was once their aunt, cuz I dated their uncle by marriage. I just spoke with the boys mother. I am in total shock over all of this. I know what it’s like to be abused like this. My parents did horrible things to me and my brother for several years and then I was adopted and was abused by them as well. I hate hearing that they had to endure something like this.

    • crystal

my oldest was really sick an it was more than just three shots

  • Digchild

Okay, where was the mother of the 2 boys? I am so angry with this guy and I don’t think the boys should ever be returned to him and his girlfriend.

    • Gwendolyn6812

Their mom lives in tx. They are not together. She did not want her boys going. Their grandma decided to let them go. She is a good mom and has always been there for them. Her boys wanted to see their dad. I agree that they should never be allowed to be around them unless its supervised….

To be fair, this kind of folksy reverse psychology has been something that people have grown up with for generations.  This dude needed to realise that he’s not living in the 50s, though.

  • Nooch

this guy is a genius i wish i would of thought of that. of course the fix for under age drinking is turn the kids in to acholics

       spellcheck….

    • crystal

thats why you shouldnt have kids

  • Muggle

Well, the best way to turn someone off any kind of substance is to be an utter dick about your usage of it.  Congratulations, dickwad, your kids will become militant teetotalers who will try to bring back the 18th Amendment.

My husband’s friend was raised by abusive drunks. Drink a glass of wine in front of him – ONE GLASS – and he’ll act like you just lit up a crack pipe and blew the smoke in his face.
