33-year-old Kylie Eastwood of Moe, Victoria, Australia was given a suspended sentence for giving her 5-year-old son homemade liquor which was almost mostly ethanol.
There’s a reason there’s a drinking age.
Thanks to Kayte for the tip.

Baby Gloria Thomas’s parents Thomas and Manju Sam jailed for not getting proper medical help:
The couple pictured at left are Manju and Thomas Sam of Earlwood, new South Wales, Australia. Mr. Sam was a practicing homeopath, or as I like to call them quacks. Both of the Sams were sentenced to prison terms for failure to get their daughter medical treatment.
Their daughter, Gloria, died from an infection that could have been easily prevented in 2002. The girl had a case eczema that ended up being so bad that all the nutrients in her body went to fighting the eczema and left her severely malnourished. Now I hate to break the image of how sexy you all think I am but I have a slight case of eczema. You know how I treat it? I put some Sarna lotion on it and occasionally take some Benadryl. But I guess that was too many ‘chemicals’ or whatever these Luddites are afraid of to give to their daughter. So rather then getting their daughter medical help they stuck to their brand of quackery. Because I guess it’s better to have a dead daughter than to admit you’re wrong.
It’s jackasses like this that remind me of the people who refuse to get their kids vaccines because of some unfounded fear of autism. Vaccines don’t cause autism. Get your kid vaccinated.
If homeopathy is your bag that’s fine. As long as you temper it with actual medical science. And don’t forsake medicine at the sake of your kids lives.

The definition of crap is up to you…
Sick boy died in Adelaide house of squalor:
In October of 2006 10-year-old Jarrad Roberts of Adelaide, South Australia was taken to a health clinic with a fever, pain in his neck and bleeding from his ear. The clinic said he had an ear infection for five days and they recommended he be taken immediately to the hospital. Instead Jarrad’s birth organism took him home and gave him antibiotics which I would lay odds were prescribed for something not even remotely related to an ear infection. Jarrad collapsed minutes later. He died only a few hours later at the hospital.
When police and the coroner went to investigate the house you can pretty much guess what they found. The house was filled with garbage, rotting food, and feces. You can get all the nasty details in the article. I won’t go into them because I just ate.
An inquest has been launched by Australian officials into why Jarrad did not receive proper medical treatment.
I can save the Australian taxpayers a lot of money. The reason he didn’t receive proper medical treatment is because his so-called mother is an unfeeling idiot. Bleeding from the ear is usually a sign that something is gravely wrong. And how can someone who claims to be a parent leave their child in pain for five days like that?
Thanks to Stacey for the tip.

Bridge death: man on murder charge ‘in acute psychiatric state’:
35-year-old Arthur Phillip Freeman, of Hawthorn, Australia, has been charged in the death of his 4-year-old daughter Darcey Iris Freeman. He stands accused of throwing her off the West Gate Bridge in Melbourne. To put that in perspective to us Yanks the bridge is 190 feet above the Yarra River at its highest point.
Darcey was taken from the river alive but died at a hospital four hours later.
It’s also alleged that Freeman had his two sons, ages 7 and 23 months, with him when he threw his daughter from the bridge.
Freeman is said to be mentally unfit to assist with investigators.
Thanks to Erin for the tip.

Police find six kids unrestrained in car:
A 25-year-old woman from Melbourne, Australia was pulled over and had six kids in her car all unrestrained.
Senior Constable Brad Cummins, who pulled the woman over, said two of the children, aged six and two, were standing up in the front seat while the other four – aged five, four, three and nine months – were also loose on the back seat.
What goes for the U.S. also goes for Australia in my opinion. If you can’t travel with kids safely maybe you should keep your dumbass at home.
Thanks to Shy Spades for the tip.

Girl brain damaged after parents refuse medical help:
This is a story about a man from Brisbane in Australia who almost killed his daughter through his devotion to ‘alternative medicine’ and disdain of conventional medicine.
His 11-year-old daughter had a heart infection but rather than taking her to a doctor or hospital he kept giving her Mannatech. Mannatech is actually a corporation that makes herbal supplements.
The father gave his daughter so much herbal supplement that it clogged her mouth. The mother said little about it because she was afraid he would take the child and she wouldn’t be able to see her. I think having a live child is preferable but that’s just me.
Anyway after he finally relented and took his daughter to the hospital after two days she sipped into a coma and wasn’t allowed to return home until after a year. She now has brain damage and is confined to a wheelchair.
The father was sentenced to three years but will be released on parole in six months. The mother was given 12 months and released on parole immediately.
I don’t think the father acted with malice but it allows me to bring up something that really irritates the snot out of me.
There is nothing better than taking your kids to a doctor or hospital when they are gravely ill. Not ‘alternative medicine’ and not prayer. I’m a religious man myself but when my kids would get sick they’d be taken to a medical facility. I’m fairly versed in theology and I really don’t think that Jesus Christ would rather have your kids die then be taken to a doctor. Also in my opinion that herbal supplements are nothing more than a scam.
I don’t know about the rest of the world but in the U.S. herbal supplements are not regulated so you don’t really know what kind of crap is in there besides the supplements and you’re not receiving the same amount of supplement in each tablet or pill.
My point? Take your kids to a doctor dumbass.
Thanks to Evil Brent for the tip.

Couple hunted over tot’s vodka drink:
An Australian couple are on the run from the law after failing to appear in court on child abuse charges.
The 20-year-old FBO and the 25-year-old Male-Step-Breeder allegedly put vodka into the drink of the 18-month-old. But wait, it doesn’t end there. They put the vodka in the drink for the sole purpose of recording it and posting it to YouTube.
What amazes me is that not only one person thought this was a good idea but both of them thought it was. All so they could be on the short bus of the internet that is YouTube. Pathetic.

In Hobart Australia, the Child Support Agency has reported hundreds of parents living in upscale communities that are hiding their income. Why are they hiding their income? They’ve been hiding their income in order to qualify for the minimum amount for child support.
These parents are paying as little as $6.00 a week, which comes out to about $0.85 a day. I guess these parents expect their child to survive on tap water alone. You certainly couldn’t afford anything nicer, like bread.
The Child Support Agency is beginning to crack down on these dead parents and expect to see an additional $460 million in child support collected.
Being a deadbeat parent is bad enough, but a wealthy deadbeat? Inexcusable.

As busy as Trench is with CrimeNe.ws and The Trenchcoat Chronicles, I’m elated that he still looks out for the little guy. He sent me this tip today about 35-year-old Australian dad Thomas Graham Towle, who has turned being a destructive bastard into some sort of extreme sport. Towle, drunk and reaking of alcohol, went on a drive with his four-year-old son, even gracious letting the boy take the wheel for a while. Witnesses put the vehicle’s speed at up to 150 kph (about 93 miles per hour) when it careened into and killed six teenagers:
- Shane Hirst, 16
- Abby Hirst, 17
- Stevie-Lee Weight, 15
- Cory Dowling, 16
- Cassandra Manners, 16
- Josie Calvi, 16
Could it possibly get any worse? Well, I’m glad you asked. Because it can, indeed, get worse. Police have further accused Mr. Towle of running away from the scene and abandoned his own kids in the car. In other words, he fled and left his kids scared, alone, and confused, leaving them to cry as innocent teens died all around them. Mr. Towle’s lawyer Brendan Murphy – a.k.a. Satan’s Stooge – insists that his client first told a witness to call an ambulance before leaving. So, wait. You mean he didn’t flee the scene and abandon his kids. Towle asked a witness to do something the witness had probably concluded was a good idea anyway, given the number of dead people on the ground…and then Towle fled the scene and abandoned his kids? Well, shit, let’s pin a metal to his chest and give him the key to the city!
During a police interview, Towle reportedly acknowledged being drunk, but maintained that it had “no effect” on his driving. I know six sets of grieving parents who would take issue with that, sir. Enjoy the rest of your sorry-ass life being someone’s shower room butt-bitch, asshole.

From the “You Gotta Be Fucking Kidding Me” Department comes this story: an Australian court has convicted a couple of…well, not quite sure if “convicted” is the right word. See, the unnamed couple had been stashing their teenaged daughter in her bedroom, under lock and key, for two years. During that time, she was allowed to take a grand total of five, count ‘em, five showers. A shower every 4.8 months. Nice. The girl finally escaped through a window and turned up at a Sydney police station, “emaciated and barely clothed”.
Here’s the punchline. The judge sentenced the wife and husband to nine and six months of WEEKEND DETENTION. In other words – he grounded them! You’ve starved, imprisoned, and tortured your kid – no more weekend jaunts to Bell’s Beach or attending Wallabies matches for you! What would the guy have done had the girl died? Taken away their cable TV?

I must’ve spent twenty minutes trying to compress Mark David Wright’s deeds into a concise headline. Perry White I am not. Mr. Wright was arrested by Australian police after staggering down the streets of his hometown clad in naught but his tightie-whities, toting a loaded shotgun.
Local authorities report that Mr. Wright left his home after a fight with his girlfriend and mother of his five year old son. Somewhat unclear on the best way to avoid incarceration, a drunk Wright told his girlfriend that due to a warrant for his arrest on a domestic violence charge, he was going to go to jail and lose his son. He then grabbed the shotgun, stripped down to his undies, and proceeded to parade through the streets of Darwin, thus insuring that he would go to jail and lose his son. Hey – why delay the inevitable? Carpe diem! And yes, Darwin is the town’s name. Isn’t it ironic? Dontcha think? Like rain on your wedding day. Or a black fly in your Chardonnay. Or…well, you get the point. Later, Mr. Wright paused to reflect on the turn his life had taken. “I realised I was walking down Trower Rd with a shotgun and it probably wasn’t a good look,” he said. Fair dinkum, mate. Fair dinkum indeed.
