Around BB we all know the “stories” most often involving stairs, a bathtub or bed. Most often we also know that isn’t the case. Meet Mary Harkins age 40 (or 41 depending on the link you’re reading), she claims her 3 year old child fell either down the stairs or from a bed (once again depending on the link you’re reading.) However medical professionals don’t buy it. Neither do we.
Mary here has a checkered past including DUI, battery, forgery and escape from custody. Obviously a stellar mother. NOT! She indicated to police that her son “tripped” and struck his head. However a 70 year old relative claims she hit her child and investigators have determined “probable cause that injuries were caused by abuse.” Investigators also claim “It sounds like there was some frustration involved” but did not elaborate on this. FRUSTRATION are you KIDDING ME??? What type of FRUSTRATION causes you to injure your own child in such a way that they are deemed un-responsive??? We’re talking about a 3 year old CHILD here, yes they can be FRUSTRATING but to injure them so badly that you need to call 911 is beyond FRUSTRATION.
Readers here will be happy to know that the child has been moved from critical to stable condition since the incident last thursday. Here’s hoping that he won’t be placed back in his mother’s custody and will fare better in the future. No word on the child’s father at all.
Frustration, yes it comes along with the territory of raising a toddler. There are many times when I’ve been FRUSTRATED with my children but I have never hit them or caused any sort of bodily injury to them when I’ve been frustrated. This mother deserves whatever punishment comes her way and then some. Thank goodness that in this case the child didn’t die in her care.
Thanks to Amanda for the tip!
